Meth, Pick-up and baby swap leads to arrest Laurel County Sheriff Press Release
Sheriff John Root reports that Information from a confidential source led Sheriff Dept investigators on the hunt for an infant child who had been supposedly traded for a 1999 silver Dodge Dakota. Information reported stated that a newborn infant had been traded for a vehicle which had then been sold for $800.00 cash and an undisclosed amount of Methamphetamine.
Through registration investigation Detectives located the vehicle and its current owner in the Keavy area of Laurel County. The current owner reported that he had purchased the truck from Heather Kaminskey for 800.00 cash and no drugs whatsoever.
A third party at that location reported that they had not seen Kaminskey in over a week and that she indeed had a newborn that Kaminskey had stated was staying with her mother in Florida. Further investigation into the truck registration led to the previous owner. Jeremy and Jamiee Brown of 281 Devils Neck Rd Corbin ky were then located at their residence in possession of the now 6 month old child.
Their stories initially varied concerning the child and how they became involved with it, however once information was gathered revealing the biological grandmother of the child they agreed to be truthful. The biological grandmother was contacted and stated that her daughter Heather Kaminskey who was already being sought on methamphetamine related warrants had fled Florida in January of 2012 being 9 months pregnant to come to Kentucky to have her child in an attempt to evade Florida Social Services who had previously removed Kaminskeys two other children.
The child was exchanged just after birth and the transaction for the 1999 silver Dodge Dakota was made. Kentucky Dept. of Social Services were contacted and upon a Judges order removed the infant from the home. The Browns were arrested and charged with Human Trafficking (victim under 18 yrs old) a Class B Felony carrying penalties of up to 20 yrs. and lodged in the Laurel Detention Center.
