Photo courtesy of Richard DavisGeorgetown's Jayme Gilbert received Mid-South Conference First Team honors at the annual basketball banquet held Thursday night. It is the second year in a row for the junior to be named by the conference coaches to the team. The Manchester, Ky. native topped 1,000 career points in her third season as a Tiger in January and currently ranks 12th in career points with this post season and her senior season left to move up in the history books. Lindsey Wilson College sophomore center Viktoria Krell was named the Player of the Year. Krell is one of 10 women named to the team that was voted on by the conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. Other student-athletes honored as first team selections included Campbellsville University sophomores Whitney Ballinger and Courtney Danis, University of the Cumberlands senior Madison Flowers, junior Amber Neace and freshman Lauren Wombles, Lindsey Wilson junior Sierra Rambert, Pikeville College sophomore Natiera Hinton and St. Catharine College junior Erin Rogers. Wombles was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference in field goal percentage (54.7) and finishing fifth in scoring (15.8). The London, Ky., native finished the regular season third in the conference with 8.9 rebounds per game. Georgetown’s Katie Filiatreau is the Champions of Character recipient. Filiatreau earned the award -- as voted on by the conference athletics director -- for her civic and servant leadership within the campus and community. In addition, she was honored as a academic all-conference selection and was the only basketball student-athlete to receive the honor with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Teammates Ashley Bell and Emily Drees also received academic all-conference awards. Campbellsville’s Ginger Colvin was selected by her peers as MSC Co-Coach of the Year. Colvin led the Tigers to a tie for the MSC regular season title with a 10-2 league mark and a 25-5 overall record.
