Middlesboro Daily News Lady Lions cruise past Oneida Baptist
PINEVILLE — The Lady Mountain Lions took advantage of 15 walks and a hit batter as they scored 16 runs on just three hits in a 16-0 win over Oneida Baptist. Monday’s game was the season opener for Pineville and a first round game in the 13th Region All “A” Classic. Pineville sophomore pitcher Rebecca Lee-Theis faced the minimum nine batters over three shutout innings and struck out seven of them. The only baserunner for the Lady Mountaineers was Audrey Smith who drew a walk with one out in the second innings. Smith stole second, but was gunned down trying to take third by Lady Lion catcher Emily Mullins. Lee-Theis fanned the final four batters she faced to end the game. The Lady Lions didn’t have to bat in the third as the 15-run rule kicked in. Pineville (1-0) will host Jackson County in the semifinals. Oneida Baptist (0-1) hosts Cordia Tuesday, April 3. The Times-Tribune South Laurel drops 3-1 decision to OBI By Denis House
Once again the inability to finish cost the South Laurel Cardinals, falling 3-1 to visiting Oneida Baptist Institute Thursday evening in boys’ soccer. OBI was able to score two goals in the first half despite South Laurel having the better chances. The difference being the Mountaineers finished their chances while South did not. In the 4th minute South’s TK Hacker fired a shot directly at OBI keeper Moses Vincent for an easy save. Hacker found Rivers Atkins in the 21st minute, but his shot was also saved by Vincent. TheTimesTribune.com OBI falls to Redhounds in regional final By Chris Parsons, Sports Editor
Coming into Wenesday’s 13th Region title game against Oneida Baptist Institute, Corbin head coach Armando Cima said he expected a tough contest against what he called a much-improved Mountaineers team. Cima got exactly what he expected and it took a goal by Lucas Canineu with less than 10:00 to play in the contest to decide the outcome as the Redhounds won their second straight 13th Region Championship. Corbin took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Tulio Canineu scored on a penalty kick after he was fouled inside the box with 21:20 to play in the half. All was silent until OBI’s Itune Liwani scored with 20:06 to play in the contest to tie the score at 1-1. It looked as though the match could go to penalty kicks until Lucas Canineu found a hole amongst a group of OBI defenders with 9:28 to play, giving the Redhounds all the room they needed. thetimestribune.com/sports/x252035972/Back-to-good
