Estill Ball
Estill Ball of rural West Harrison, IN passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday morning. He was born in Clay County, KY on July 16, 1931 the son of William & Victoria (Napier) Ball. The 82 year old is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen (Combs) Ball, daughters Carolyn (Jim) Stiles and Lori (Elmer) Kolb all of West Harrison and grandchildren Jason (Carole) Stiles, Nate & Shellby Kolb and 3 great grandchildren Connor, Heath & Lilli Stiles and 1 brother, Virgil Ball. He retired from the Samuel Bingham Roller Company and was a hobby farmer. Estill loved his family and many friends and enjoyed visiting and sharing his experiences with them. He was a member of the Smyrna missionary Baptist Church in New Trenton and a fifty-year plus member of the Robert Clark Masonic Lodge in Clay County, KY. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 5-8pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH with Masonic Services at 7:30pm. (ST. GEORGE, Utah) - William "Bill" Vernon passed away October 5, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 28, 1944 in Oneida, Kentucky to Roy and Dorothy Vernon. He married Margaret Anne Linford on June 9, 1962 in Manchester, Kentucky. Bill was a longtime resident of St. George. He was a bricklayer by trade and worked on many homes and buildings in St. George. He was an active member of the St. George Lion’s Club for many years and considered each of them his brothers. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Anne; children: Tom (Wendy) Vernon, Tami McCloughan, and Tracy Williams all of St. George; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and sister, Patty (Bobby) Henson of Frankfort, Kentucky. Preston G. “Bubba” Hacker, age 63 of Cincinnati, formerly of Clay County, departed this life on Thursday, October 17th, at the Franciscan West Hospice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the devoted husband of Christine Hacker, loving father of Sean Hacker, cherished grandfather of Layne (Emily) Puls, dear brother of Geraldine Merida, Patricia Kenney, Vernon Hacker, Roland Hacker, Deborah Holmes and the late Joe Hacker, Richard Hacker and Irene Hacker, also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was the son of the late James Pearl and Lucy Hacker of Manchester. Clay County Native Rev. Robert (Bob) Franklin Lucas died October 15
Rev. Robert (Bob) Franklin Lucas went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at the age 94. He was born in Manchester, Ky., July 10, 1919. Bob married Ona Theresa Kannedy in Springfield, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1941, and is a WWII vet who served for three years, from 1942 to 1945, in France, England and Germany. At the age of 17, Bob told God, "If you are real, make yourself real to me." God heard and made Himself very real in Bob's life and ministry. Bob and Ona pastored in Las Cruces, N.M. 1955-1965 and again 1971-1975; Billings, 1965-1968, and returned to Billings 1988; Yakima, Wash., 1968-1971; in El Paso, Texas, 1975-1988. Bob also filled the pulpits for pastor friends in the Billings area and Jerome, Idaho, after his "retirement." For the last five weeks of his life, he ministered as a resident at Beartooth Manor, in Columbus, Mont. He loved to pray with and for others, and give devotion when asked. He was scheduled to give devotions on the day he passed, titled, "The End." Included in that message are these words, "In Christ, the end is only the beginning." Bob is preceded in death by his wife Ona (Oct. 16, 2012), and two sisters. He is survived by five daughters, Linda Williamson (Milt), Carolyn Everard (Jim) of Billings, Candy Onoszko (Ed) of Laurel; Dena Gunn (Brad Fredrickson) of Evanston, Wyo., and Kelly Montague of Foley, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Alfred Wilson, 89, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. He was born June 19, 1924 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Alfred and Hettie Bond Wilson. He was the former owner of Laurel Elec-Troll; was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 144, a veteran and P.O.W. of World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church of East Bernstadt. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Mullins Wilson; three sons, Douglas David Wilson and wife Maxine of Clinton, Tenn., Darrel Ray Wilson and wife Roxanne of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ronald Kevin Wilson and wife, Greta of Cox’s Creek, Ky. Born January 23, 1930, in Manchester, Kentucky, to John and Opal Smith Downey, she had lived in Richmond since 1965. Oredith enjoyed gardening, sewing, working in the yard, and spending time with family and friends. Elbert Smith, 85, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013. Born Oct. 4, 1928 in Clay County, Ky., he was the son of the late Chester and Helen Hoskins Smith. He was a retired employee of Laurel Bargo Vault Company, a member of the Laurel River United Baptist Church, and a veteran of the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Lorena Smallwood Smith who survives. She was the mother of Reena Philpot and husband Earl of London. The daughter of Jewell (Barger) Couch of London. The sister of Pauline Sparks of Manchester, Kentucky, and Ralph Couch of Oneida, Kentucky. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Korey Philpot and Benjamin Philpot both of London. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Couch; by one sister, Regina Hotler. Mae Marcum Dyche, 87, London, Ky., departed from this earth on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, surrounded by those she loved at her home in Village Heights, London, Ky. She was born Sept. 27, 1926 in Manchester, Ky., to the late William and Elsie Marcum. She was married to Richard Dyche on June 1, 1950. They were together for 60 years until his passing in 2010. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jude Campbell and three brothers, Carl, Ed and Fred Marcum. She is survived by her daughter Sally and a loving brother, Henry “Bud” Marcum of Lexington, Ky.; as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her extended family at Village Heights Assisted Living. Although not biologically related, she loved the staff and other residents with all her heart. They were truly family to her. Mrs. Dyche was a retired caseworker for the Department of Human Resources and a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was famous for her love of life and laughter and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral service for Mae Marcum Dyche was conducted Dec. 3 in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Jamie Maxey officiating. Burial followed at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.

Dessie Joy (Bowman) Neeley was born October 2, 1931 in Laurel County and departed this life Monday, January 6, 2014 at her residence, being 82 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Zachary & Rose (Nantz) Bowman. Joy is survived by three children, Jerry Randall Neeley and his wife Carla of Annville, Steve Neeley of Annville and Rhonda Smith and her husband William of Eads, TN. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Kenneth Neeley, Kayla Neeley and Jerrid Neeley. In addition to her parents, Joy was also preceded in death by her husband, Randall Neeley; by a daughter, Diane Neeley and by a brother Zachary Bowman Jr. Joy was a member of the Church of Christ. Phyllis Marie Daniel Bowman, 65, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Baptist Health-Richmond. Mrs. Bowman was born September 27, 1948, in Oneida, Kentucky, to Roscoe and Josephine Robertson Daniel. Her family referred to her as a “granny to the whole world.” She loved her family and children of all ages. She was of the Baptist faith. Born March 7, 1944 in Manchester, Ky., he was the son of the late Jarvis and Julia Mae Minton Hampton. He was a postal worker and a member of Valley Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Phyllis Dean Hampton; and two brothers, Gary Hampton and Mark Wayne Hampton. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Brown Hampton, Sallys Branch Road; two children, Rhonda (Reuben) Goforth and Jeff (Frankie) Hampton, all of London; two sisters, Brenda (Bob) Burchette and Linda (Mike) Wagers, all of Manchester, Ky.; two brothers, Murral (Phyllis) Hampton of Manchester, Ky., and David (Diane) Hampton of East Bernstadt; two step children, Bradley (Jodi) Cheek, and Travis Cheek, all of London; 13 grandchildren, Robbie Goforth, Wesley Goforth, Dylan Hampton, Rachael Hampton, Wendell Hampton, Keisha Hubbard, Hannah Hubbard, Rachel Cheek, Haley Cheek, Brodi Cheek, Sydni Cheek, Benjamin Cheek, and Trevor Cheek; and four great-grandchildren, Adrian Goforth, Kiara Goforth, Matthew Goforth, and Alex Goforth. He was also blessed with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at London Funeral Home with Brother Jimmy Cloud and Brother Roy Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Martin Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Hampton, Johnny Brown, Dean Joseph, Dylan Hampton, Wendell Hampton, Adrian Joseph and Bobbie Goforth. Sentinel-Echo Riley Thompson Lipps, native of Clay County, passed away Thursday
Riley Thompson Lipps, 87, London, Ky., passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. He was born June 4, 1926 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late William and Minnie Thompson Lipps. He was a retired foreman with a sign making company in Cincinnati, Ohio, a member of the Swiss Colony Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Martin. He was united in marriage to Delie Sizemore Lipps who survives. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Brandon and Brett Martin; and three great- grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Greg Deaton and Johnny Jervis officiating. Burial in Swiss Colony Cemetery.
