The Paducah Sun Ruth Moore Brooks, 87, of Paducah, Ky. Friend of OBI
Ruth Moore Brooks was born in Gilbertsville, Ky. Ruth was a graduate of the Murray Teachers College in Murray, Ky. She worked at the Oakridge Atomic Energy Plant which was later known as Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Ruth transferred in 1954 to the Union Carbide Plant in Paducah, Ky. She also was the bookkeeper for B.T. Brooks and Son Construction Company. Ruth was a educator working in many pre-school programs in Paducah. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paducah where she was a member of the Tuesday Morning Ministry. Ruth was an avid bridge player and served as a volunteer in the school system as an Aide to assist students in various subjects. She is survived by her son, James W. Brooks and his wife Lynda of Paducah, KY.; daughter, Marianne Campbell; nephew, Doug Moore and wife Wanda of Paducah, KY.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly T. Brooks; one sister; and three brothers. Her parents were Will Moore and Stella Jones Moore. ARJAY - Paul Garfield Roark, age 75 of Arjay, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2012, at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born at Beverly on December 7, 1936, a son of the late Huey and Susie Lawson Roark. He believed in the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the Ferndale Pentecostal Church. A lifelong resident of Bell County, he had been a coal miner for 36 years. Jeff Hoskins, 71 passed away February 21
Jeff Hoskins, age 71 passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2012 at his home in Franklin. By his side was his devoted wife of 15 years, Janice L. (Hurst) Hoskins, whom he married on Valentines Day in 1997 in Nashville and his loving family. Jeff was a former resident of Brown County. He was the father to Debbie (Michael) West of Big Creek, KY, Doyel (Pennie) Hoskins of Edinburgh, Darrel (Susan) Hoskins of Bargersville, Claybie (Sandra) Hoskins of Trafalgar, Wayne (Nancy) Hoskins of Spencer; step daughters: Patty (Dave) Frensemeier & Kimberly (Brian) Brady both of Nashville; and step son: Timothy James (Susan) Huber of Tell City. Jeff will be remembered by his siblings: Violet Sizemore & Clabbie Hoskins both of Brown County and Hiram Hoskins of Louisville; 26 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Fern (Swafford) Hoskins; one sister: Myrtle Wagers; and three brothers: Ballard, Hugh & Clifton Hoskins. Jeff was born February 23, 1940 in Manchester, KY to the late Howard and Malvie (Barger) Hoskins. He retired in 1990 as a Union Carpenter with the Carpenters Local 60 in Indianapolis, after 22 years of service. After retirement, Jeff enjoyed raising and trail riding his Tennessee Walking Horses & mules. He was a 15 year member of the Harmony Baptist Church in New Bellsville. He enjoyed watching old western movies and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jeff also enjoyed his time outdoors hunting for squirrels, deer & rabbits and fishing. The Rev. Gregory S. Brown will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 am, Friday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Clay County native Lee Roy King age 84 of Indiana
METAMORA, Ind. - Lee Roy King, age 84, of Metamora, Indiana died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Brookville Healthcare Center in Brookville, Indiana. Born March 29, 1927 in Clay County, Kentucky he was the son of the late Granville & Georgia (Barrett) King. He lived much of his life in Franklin County, Indiana and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. On September 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Lucille Miller, and she survives. He had owned & operated his own Television & Electronics Store in Brookville for many years, retiring in 1999; as well as having been a bus driver for the Franklin County Community School Corporation for over 33 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Connersville, Indiana and the Metamora Masonic Lodge. Besides Lucille, his loving wife of over 61 years, survivors include two daughters & sons-in-law, Teresa & Dan Banks of Brookville, Indiana and Marcia & Richard Lawler of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Darren Lawler, Kevin Lawler, Kristin Parks, Kayla Lawler, and Patricia Dunaway; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Allen of Naples, Florida; as well as several Nieces & Nephews. Bobbie Sizemore Keltner age 76 years of Columbia, KY passed away Sunday February 26, 2012 at 5:35 PM at the Medical Center of Bowling Green in Bowling Green, KY after several years of illness. She was born September 22, 1935 at Big Creek in Clay County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Ted and Alpha Herd Sizemore. Mrs. Keltner was a 1957 graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing Program, a retired registered nurse licensed in Kentucky and Ohio and a former health science teacher at the Russell County Vocational School, a co-owner of K & F Kentucky Food Store for 24 years and a homemaker, she was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 53 years: George T. Keltner of Columbia, KY, two daughters Leslie Keltner of Columbia, KY, Alissa Barnes and husband Bob of Columbia, KY, one brother: Ted “Bear” Sizemore of Richmond, KY, five grandchildren: Elise Murrell, Charlotte Murrell, Thomas Murrell, Payton Barnes & Logan Barnes all of Columbia, KY. Tish was born in Manchester, Ky., on Feb. 28, 1934, the daughter of Lester and Sally (Lunsford) House. She was previously the owner of campgrounds in Florida and a restaurant in Georgetown, Ky. Since her return to Hamilton a few years ago, Tish joined Hamilton Senior Citizens, and enjoyed her activities there. She is survived by two daughters, Denice Sositko and fiance, Dave of Hamilton and Dixie Ward and husband, Jack of Jacksonville, Fla.; three stepchildren, Lori Leonard and husband, Jim of Loveland Ohio, Jerry Garner and wife, Becky, of Hamilton, Ohio and Dale Garner, and wife; two brothers, Gil House and wife, Laura of Lake Park, Ga., and Beve House of Hamilton, Ohio; three sisters, Lina Walker of Lexington, Ky., Grace Drummond of London, Ky., and Minnie Wombles of Hamilton, Ohio. Tish has many nieces and nephews as well as step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James House and four sisters, Aldi House, Maggie Withrow, Mary Rice and Mallie Fritz. Funeral services were held Friday. Lois Thibedeau, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away March 23, 2012. She was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Manchester, Ky., and moved to this area in 1986 from Kenosha, Wis. Mrs. Thibedeau was a retired Inspector for Chrysler Corp. She was a member of U.A.W. Union. She was an avid fisherman and loved any activity that was on water. Eligah Parks native of Manchester
Eligah Parks, 64, of Austin, Indiana, passed away at 8:42 AM on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. He retired from Jeff Boat in Jeffersonville and enjoyed fishing and building things for his hobbies. Born August 20, 1947 in Oneida, Kentucky, and raised in Manchester, he was the son of Estill and Ida Parks who are both deceased. Survivors include two children, a daughter, Carolyn Parks (Dennis Bannister) of Scottsburg, a son, Kenneth (Samantha) Parks of Scottsburg, two brothers, Charles (Sara) Parks of Bethel, Ohio, Joe Parks of Manchester, Kentucky. Charles Kenneth "Kenny" Roark, Jr.1958 - 2012
Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Roark, Jr., 54 of Middlesboro, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was born February 17, 1958 in Middlesboro, KY, the son of the late Charles Kenneth “Jake” Roark, Sr. and Edith Earle Roark who survives. Upon his graduation from Middlesboro High School, Kenny accepted a football scholarship to the University of Kentucky. He was named best offensive lineman in 1979 and 1980. In 1980 he served as co-captain and most valuable player and was named most valuable player by the Birmingham Touchdown Club. Kenny was an honorable mention All American, First Team all Southeastern Conference, and participated the Blue-Gray All Star Football Classic. He was also a member of the 1976 Peach Bowl Championship Team In 1981 he signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns and in 1982 as a free agent with the Washington Redskins. Kenny’s football career, led him to a coaching career that spanned over 27 years, amassing a 154-72 record as a high school head coach. The highlight of this came in 1998 when he lead the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets to the Class A Championship. Kenny loved all of his players and was proud to have coached each and every one of them. He was especially proud to have been able to coach his own son Chase. Kenny was currently serving as head football coach for the Clay County Tigers. He is survived by the following members of his family: Children: Ashley Roark and Chase Roark Mother: Edith Roark Sisters: Kelly Roark Helton, Margaret “Beth” Roark and Valerie Roark Wife: Teresa Roark Brother-in-law: Clifford Helton Best Friend: Gary Barnett Nieces and Nephews: Laurel Helton, Kenny Leach, Kendall, Kelly, and Johnny Roberts.
