Mike Fields' notebook: Could Zach Lewis's stay at top of state's passing stats be in danger?
Lone Oak sophomore Cole Ousley threw for 380 yards and seven TDs in a 56-19 rout of Owensboro. Ousley pushed his season totals to 3,309 yards and 52 TDs, and two-year totals to 6,681 yards and 86 TDs. If he keeps passing at this pace the next two seasons, Ousley will challenge the state career record of 13,642 yards set by Clay County's Zach Lewis, and obliterate the record for TD passes of 133 shared by Leslie County's Tim Couch and South Laurel's Ricky Bowling. Johnson Central's loss to Highlands ended the career of J.J. Jude, the state's all-time leading rusher. Jude carried 23 times for 94 yards to finish with 8,633 yards, 409 more than Derek Homer's old mark of 8,224. Central senior Anthony Wales is third on the list. He ran for 137 yards in a win over Corbin to give him 7,779 yards. www.kentucky.com/2011/11/18/1963880/mike-fields-notebook-playoff-offenses.html

Jacob Hyde Update by Bleed Blue Kentucky
I’ve exchanged text messages the last few days with Manchester, Kentucky (Clay County High School) standout Defensive Tackle Jacob Hyde. Hyde was in Lexington all weekend and actually checked out the Highlands-Lexington Catholic game on Friday night. He told me that Patrick Towles looked “real good” in the game. Highlands won the game 42-21. On Saturday, Hyde made his 4th trip to watch UK play this season. He was their previously for Louisville, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. I think it’s safe to say that the UT game was the best for any recruit that was visiting. Hyde stormed the field and went to the locker room after the game. Here’s what he had to say about the crowd: “They were amazing. They stood behind the players no matter what they done, good or bad. They make the big blue nation. The most memorable moment for me had to be the touchdown or the pick to seal the deal.” Hyde met up with Defensive Line Coach David Turner before the game. Turner told Hyde that he was happy to see him at the game. Thanks again to Hyde for giving BBK another update. Hyde stands at 6’3, weighs 310, and his bench press max is 415. Hyde has been described as a very hard worker in the weight room by people close to him. UK has offered. Schools like Louisville, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Auburn are showing interest. He will likely pick up more offers in the spring and summer. www.kentuckywildcats.us/jacob-hyde-update-2013-dt

herald-leader.com 2011 Class of the Commonwealth By Mike Fields
Two players who played at Tiger Stadium this year made the 20th Class of the Commonwealth, the Herald-Leader's annual shout-out to 22 of the top high school football seniors in Kentucky. Players were chosen for the Class of the Commonwealth based primarily on their individual and team accomplishments, and in some cases college potential. Cory Davenport, Running back, Bell County
Height, weight: 5-9, 180 Bell County's little big man helped the Bobcats to a 51-5 record in his career. He rushed for for 5,257 yards and averaged better than 10 yards a carry. He also had 95 career touchdowns. He saw spot duty on Bell County's unbeaten 4A state title team as a freshman. Besides starring in football, Davenport is also an academic standout with a 4.0 GPA and ranks in the top five in his senior class. EKU, WKU, Morehead State, Carson-Newman and several NAIA schools are interested. J.J. Jude, Running back, Johnson Central
Height, weight: 5-9, 190 The leading rusher in state history. Not bad for a guy who's also a state champion wrestler. Jude rushed for more than 3,000 yards each of the last two seasons and broke Derek Homer's career record of 8,224 yards. Jude finished with 8,637 yards and scored 104 TDs. He ran for a state-record 584 yards against Woodford County in 2010. Johnson Central lost in the playoffs to eventual state champ Highlands the past three years. Jude's top two choices are EKU and Liberty. Read more here: www.kentucky.com/2011/12/25/2006154/2011-class-of-the-commonwealth.html

Hyde, Canady amoung top Kentucky Football Prospects Vital to 2013 Recruiting Jacob Hyde
Signing Day is over and spring practice isn’t here yet. Everyone is speculating over where, when and how much the 2012 freshmen will play this upcoming season. Or they are caught up in basketball season, which is fine, it’s that time of year. Despite less-than-stellar ratings from the industry websites, Joker Phillips and Co. signed a stellar class by Kentucky’s standards. They also avoided any controversy with pulled rides and/or late flips. But there is no time to rest when you are climbing from the bottom and Kentucky has hit the 2013 recruiting trail hard. There are at least two Junior Days this month and the staff will have several prospects in town. While they seem to be hitting Ohio hard, many of UK’s top targets will be in-state this year. Jacob Hyde, OL-DL, Clay County- Hyde is a big body who projects well to the defensive line in college. Physically similar to 2012 signee Patrick Graffree, Hyde would be a great pickup for the Cats and you have to like theirs chances. Prediction: Kentucky Jeffrey Canady, RB/WR/DB, Knox Central – Canady is a compact athlete who could project at multiple positions in college, though most expect him to play defensive back. The wildcard here is his excellent hands which could secure him a spot on offense. Supposedly he grew up a Cats fan so you have to like UK’s chances here. Prediction: Kentucky Kentayvus Hopkins, RB, Bourbon County- Mr. Hopkins was one of the top backs in the state in 2012. Kentucky’s coaches have been in touch, though it seems an offer has yet to be extended. Per his twitter account Hopkins seems very open to attending UK. wildcatbluenation.com Clay County Tiger Jacob Hyde is Wildcats first football commit for 2013
There are reports that Joker Phillips has landed his first commit of the 2013 class. Jacob Hyde, a 6’2, 310 DT from Manchester , Kentucky is that commit. Hyde attends Clay County and was one of the juniors that came away impressed with Kentucky during the recent Junior Days. None of the rating services seem to have rated Hyde yet, but he drawn the attention of several SEC programs, including Mississippi State, and new SEC schools Missouri and Texas A&M. Louisville and Georgia Tech had also shown interest. Kentucky is being choosy with the scholarships for 2013 as they only have about 14 openings as of now. We will have more on Hyde over the next few days on the WBN wildcatbluenation.com/2012/03/01/kentucky-wildcats-land-first-football-commit-for-2013

CatsIllustrated.com Clay County player Jacob Hyde will live his dream at UK Story by Steve Jones
MANCHESTER, Ky. - Like many people in his Southeast Kentucky town, Clay County High School's Jacob Hyde has been a University of Kentucky football fan all his life. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle is a proud resident of Manchester, considered a stronghold of UK fans but one not thought to have produced any recent football Wildcats. It's set to produce one now. Hyde, one of the state's strongest, biggest players, became UK's first verbal recruiting commitment in the class of 2013 on March 1, and he's still soaking in what it all means to him and his community. Evan Napier
High school notebook Evan Napier is new football coach at Clay County By Mike Fields
* Evan Napier is the new football coach at Clay County. He'll succeed Kenny Roark, who died a few weeks ago. Napier was a star at Clay County and played at EKU. He was an assistant at Clay County the last six seasons. * Longtime Lynn Camp football coach David Mitchell has been fired, according to the Corbin Times Tribune. Mitchell, a Lynn Camp graduate, was the Wildcats' head coach for 34 years, highlighted by a trip to the Class A semifinals in 2003. * Perry Central senior standout Jaysean Paige, who averaged 21 points this season, signed to play basketball with The College of Southern Idaho, which won the national junior college title in 2011. * Mercer County hired Chris Pardue as its new football coach. Pardue was Campbellsville University's offensive coordinator the last four years. Before that, he was at Boyle County, where he was offensive coordinator for the Rebels' run of five consecutive state titles. Pardue took over as Boyle County coach when Chuck Smith left to become an assistant at UK. Pardue had a three-year record of 22-13. Rivals.com Spotlight Kentucky recruit Jacob Hyde (Class of 2012)
Jacob Hyde (2013-DT) from Clay County, KY may be one of the most underrated recruits in quite some time. He is every bit 300 lbs and can move. He has impressed at camps and combines. I wouldn’t be shocked if other teams tried to jump into the mix for his services. Based on BBK’s interviews, schools will have a difficult time flipping him on signing day. Hat tip to Rivals for the video.
