Men's Golf Announces 2011-12 Schedule Cats to host UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational in September
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team will face a grueling 2011-12 schedule, featuring 10 challenging tournaments at some of the best courses across the South, including a stop in Lexington at the University Club of Kentucky, UK head coach Brian Craig announced Monday. Craig, who is entering his 11th season as the Wildcats head man, and the Wildcats will travel to seven different states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia. UK will face several top-notch opponents on championship-style courses, with four new tournaments added to the schedule, including the Marshall Invitational, Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational, Bearcat Invitational and USF Invitational. “We’ve got a great schedule that’s going to get us ready for the Southeastern Conference Championship and the postseason,” Craig said. “We’ve got a couple different tournaments in the fall that will give the guys experience on different courses. I’m especially looking forward to the spring schedule because it’s as good as it gets, it really is.” One very noticeable change to the 2011-12 schedule is the switch in dates between the UK Bluegrass Invitational and the Gary Koch Invitational. For the past two seasons the UK Bluegrass Invitational has been the Wildcats’ final tournament before the SEC Championship and the Gary Koch Invitational has been the second tournament on the docket in the fall. With the trade in dates, Craig believes the fields will be more difficult and will better prepare the Wildcats as the season progresses. “We’ve moved our tournament at the University Club to the fall,” Craig said. “The different conditions that this will present will be good for our guys. By moving the Gary Koch, a tournament we co-host with Auburn, to the spring, it has attracted an even better group of schools and has enhanced our schedule even more. It comes right before the conference tournament at Sea Island, Ga., and it will get us ready for the SEC Championship.” The overall schedule will be separated into a fall and spring schedule, with Kentucky playing five events in each season. The fall schedule will begin at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va., running Sept. 12-13. The Wildcats will then come home to the University Club where they will host the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational at the Big Blue course on Sept. 17-18. The Wildcats then head north to Toledo, Ohio for the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational (Sept. 26-27) before going to Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky., for the Bearcat Invitational (Oct. 10-11). Kentucky will close out the fall schedule at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, played at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., from Oct. 29-30. UK’s 2011 spring schedule opens with the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The two-day event will be played at Magnolia Grove Golf Club on Feb. 20-21. The Wildcats will then head to the Sunshine State for the USF Invitational taking place at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on March 4-6. After its brief stop in Florida, Kentucky will participate in two more three-day events with the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., running from March 16-18 and the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate going from March 25-27 in Awendaw, S.C. Kentucky closes out the spring portion of the season at the Gary Koch Invitational. UK will co-host the event with Auburn at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla., for the third consecutive season. Kentucky will make the annual trip to St. Simons Island, Ga., for the SEC Championship on April 20-22. The Wildcats have been successful at the SEC Championships under Craig, posting four top-six finishes under Craig’s tenure. Kentucky won its first ever SEC Championship in 2005 when Craig was named the SEC Coach of the Year and Eaton Golf Pride Midwest Coach of the Year. The NCAA Regional Championship is May 17-19 and the NCAA Championship, being held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., takes place from May 29–June 3. UK Men's Golf Begins Season at Marshall Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team opens its season Monday at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. Entering the 2011 season, the 11th under the direction of head coach Brian Craig, the Wildcats will look to turn the corner with a talented group of returning golfers and an exciting trio of freshman newcomers. “I feel good about this team,” Craig said. “I think that right now we have the nucleus to really do something good. So what I’m excited about is to see how much better we can get throughout the season and ultimately get this team into the postseason and let them have a chance to see what they can do on the biggest stage. We’re ready for that.” The Marshall Invitational, hosted by Marshall University, will be played at Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Wildcats have played in this tournament twice before in the Brian Craig era, finishing in fourth in 2002 and a tie for second in 2003. Both of those tournaments were played during the spring season. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will feature 15 schools competing for the title, including the Wildcats. Joining Kentucky in Huntington will be Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Northwestern, Ohio State, Ohio University, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Wright State, and Xavier. The schedule calls for 36 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start, followed by 18 holes Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. "We are ready to get the season started at the Marshall Invitational and see what this team can do,” Craig said. “We have practiced well these last couple of weeks and also had some guys step up and finish qualifying on a very positive note. Our mantra this season will be staying patient and finishing strong. We will need both of those traits to play well here at Guyan Country Club." Kentucky returns seven letter winners to its roster, including 2010 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman selection Chase Parker. Parker, a junior this year, led the Wildcats last year with five top-25 finishes and the lowest season stroke average on the team with a 73.29 mark. “I’m looking for Chase to do a great job of leading this team on the course and off the course,” Craig said. “He’s very consistent. He’s what I call an ‘everyday player.’ We need more of that. We need guys who, even when they’re not at their best, are still competitive. That’s what Chase is and that’s one of the reasons he’s so valuable to this team. He is an everyday player and we can count on him to be in it all the time. I’m excited about him. He has two years left and I think he’s in a spot to really excel and make these last two years really exceptional.” Also returning for UK will be sophomores Matthew Anderson, Cody Martin and Stephen Powers, as well as juniors Joseph Barr and Seth Blann. The lone senior on the team, Mads Kristensen, will be called upon by Craig to help show the younger players the ropes. Kristensen has played in the SEC Championships in each of his first three years with the Cats and played in six tournaments last season. “Mads has great skills and fundamentals, and he has a great work ethic,” Craig said. “I think with the right mentality, patience and mindset on the golf course, he’ll be ready to take it up a notch. We hope he’ll do that, he’s our only senior and has a lot of knowledge of the courses we play and how to play in those big tournaments. I’m excited and I hope he’ll play how he’s capable of playing.” Newcomers to the roster include Will Bishop, Todd McDaniel and David Snyder. All three freshmen are Kentucky natives and all, Craig said, will have a chance to contribute immediately. “Will Bishop is a local product out of Dunbar High School,” Craig said. “Will has a really good junior record and has proven he can shoot low scores in those tournaments. He absolutely has a chance to contribute. Todd McDaniel from Manchester, Ky., would be what I would call a little bit of a late bloomer. He really didn’t come into his own until probably after his junior year of high school and since then he’s been really good and really solid. He has a competitive spirit that I’d like to instill in everybody on the team. He’s the kind of guy you want to go to battle with. And David Snyder from Somerset, Ky., has a chance to contribute right off the bat. He’s a big, strong, already physically developed kid with a very good junior record. There’s no question he’s capable of helping out. “I think all three of them are going to play this year. We’ll just see how much and when it happens. I hope they play great because there are some open spots for them to take.” Also new to the roster in 2011 is first-year assistant coach Jessie Mudd. Mudd comes to Kentucky after a successful All-America career at the University of Florida where he helped lead the Gators to three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. Kentucky is seeking to return to NCAA Regionals for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Craig and the Wildcats will look to build on the 2010-11 season that saw them record four top-three finishes, their most since the 2005-06 season. “The foundation, particularly with the younger guys, talent-wise, is really good,” Craig said. “So we have a bunch of guys who are going to be here for awhile together and are going to keep growing and getting better and better and taking us back to where we need to be and desire to be. I’m looking forward to the challenge of improving this year, getting better and getting back on track and seeing how far we can take it. And I think with these guys, by the end of the year, we’ll be pretty dog-gone good.” For more news and information on the Kentucky men’s golf team, please go to: UKAthletics.com

Wildcats Set to Host UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational Tournament will be played in the fall for the first time in its five years
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team is staying close to home this weekend, as it hosts the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky. This is the fifth time Kentucky has hosted the UK Bluegrass Invitational, but the first time the tournament has been played during the fall season. “We’re really excited to host this tournament in the fall for the first time ever,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “The golf course is in great shape. As a team, we’re ready to bounce back from our first tournament and play how we’re capable of playing.” The invitational will be played on the Big Blue Course (par 71, 6,988 yards) at the University Club of Kentucky. Southeastern Conference foe Auburn won the title in April last season, and Kentucky finished in second place with a team score of 24-over par 876. The second-place finish was tied for the best finish of the season for UK, and the Wildcats’ score of 876 was their second lowest of the year. The Wildcats will send out their entire roster this weekend, with a five-man rotation and five individuals. Sophomore Cody Martin, who finished in a tie for fourth place at the Marshall Invitational with a score of 7-under par 206, will start for Kentucky along with 2010 SEC All-Freshman team selection Chase Parker, sophomore Stephen Powers, junior Joseph Barr and freshman Will Bishop. Sophomore Matthew Anderson, junior Seth Blann, senior Mads Kristensen, and freshmen Todd McDaniel and David Snyder will play as individuals.
The tournament this year will feature 15 schools competing for the title, including Austin Peay, Belmont, Butler, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Lipscomb, Marshall, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee-Martin, Valparaiso, Wright State, Youngstown State and Kentucky. There will also be 12 individuals from seven schools playing in this year’s tournament. Kentucky finished in 11th place last weekend at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. UK was led by Martin, whose 54-hole total of 206 was a career best. For all Kentucky men’s golf news and information, including results from the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational, go to UKathletics.com.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off a fourth-place finish at the rain-shortened Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team is now preparing to tee off at the Bearcat Invitational in Hebron, Ky., on Monday. The Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati at the Traditions Club (par 71, 7,050 yards), is the fourth tournament of the fall season for the Wildcats. Kentucky enters the two-day, 54-hole tournament coming off back-to-back top-five finishes, including a team victory at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational. The Wildcats will also play sophomore Matthew Anderson, freshman David Snyder, freshman Will Bishop, junior Seth Blann and freshman Todd McDaniel as a “B” team that will be listed in the results of the tournament, but will not factor into Kentucky’s record or national rankings. “This is a great opportunity for us to play our entire team in the Bearcat Invitational,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “We will have a first and second team playing which will allow all of our guys to get valuable tournament experience outside of Lexington. We are very appreciative to Cincinnati’s golf coach, Doug Martin, for allowing us to bring everyone on the roster. Traditions Golf Club is an excellent and demanding test of golf as well. It is the type of course that will separate the field and we are looking forward to the challenge.” Kentucky will be competing against 13 other teams, including Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Belmont, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Georgetown University, Marshall, Morehead State, Oakland, Ohio, Youngstown State and host school Cincinnati. Thirty-six holes will be played Monday beginning at 8:45 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Men's Golf Finishes in Second at Bearcat Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky men's golf team could not keep up the momentum gained from its tournament-best second round at the Bearcat Invitational, finishing in second place, one-shot short of the title held at the Traditions Golf Club (par 71, 6,855 yards) in Hebron, Ky. "We had a rough day today and lost by one shot," UK head coach Brian Craig said. "We showed what we are capable of in the middle round but did not back it up today. We need to have a couple days of focused practice this week before heading to Atlanta for our next event." The Wildcats were led by juniors Joseph Barr and Chase Parker, who each finished in a tie for third in the 79-player field. UK recorded a 299 in the final round of the tournament to finish at 17-over par total. The second-place finish is Kentucky's third-straight top-five finish of the season. Barr carded a final round 78, but finished the tournament at even-par overall and had the second-best scoring average on par 4s. Barr carded a first-round 5-under par 66, the best of his collegiate career, and had the second most birdies in the field. "Hats off to Joseph Barr for a superb first 36 holes," Craig said. "To be at 135 going into today was impressive golf. He will learn from today and be better the next time he is in that position." Parker concluded his tournament with a 1-over par 72, finishing at even-par overall. The Augusta, Ga., native remained consistent throughout the tournament and finished with the second most pars in the entire field. Sophomore Stephen Powers finished with a 3-over par 74 on Tuesday, while sophomore Cody Martin carded a 5-over par 76 and senior Mads Kristensen shot a 6-over par 77. In addition to its "A" squad, which finished in second overall, Kentucky also played a "B" squad at the Bearcat Invitational. The Wildcats' "B" team is listed in the results of the tournament, but does not factor into Kentucky record or national rankings. The "B" squad finished in 11th at the 15-team field. UK's "B" team was lead by freshman David Snyder, who finished in a tie for 32nd with a final round 2-over par 73. Snyder finished at 10-over par overall. Junior Seth Blann carded a 4-over par 75 on Tuesday, freshmen Will Bishop and Todd McDaniel shot 76 and 77, respectively, and sophomore Matthew Anderson finished with a 7-over par 78. UK men's golf team will begin spring season at Mobile Bay University of Kentucky Press Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off a fall season that saw the University of Kentucky men’s golf team record three top-five team finishes, including a first-place finish at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational, the Wildcats are now set to begin the spring season at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala., on Monday. “We are excited and ready to start the spring semester, especially after having such good practice weather for the past month,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “It is a new year and a great time for us to show improvement. This is the best group of guys I have coached and I look forward to watching them improve each week this spring.” Hosted by the University of South Alabama, the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, entering its fifth year, is being held at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course (par 72, 7,160 yards). Competing for Kentucky this week will be sophomores Cody Martin and Stephen Powers, juniors Chase Parker and Joseph Barr, and freshman David Snyder. Kentucky has played at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in each of the past two seasons. Kentucky’s final round 279 also tied the lowest team round in tournament history. Parker led the Wildcats at the event last season, finishing in a tie for second individually with a final score of 4-under-par (212). Martin, who played in the tournament as an individual, finished in a tie for fourth at 1-over-par (217). Middle Tennessee took the 2011 team championship with a final score of 1-under-par, while Jason Millard of Middle Tennessee won the individual title with an impressive final score of 11-under par (205). Middle Tennessee’s 54-hole team score and Millard’s 54-hole individual score were both the lowest in tournament history. Kentucky finished in the top five three times during the 2011 fall season, highlighted by its team victory at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational. Martin led the Wildcats with a team-best stroke average of 72.60. The Union, Ky., native had his best outing at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational, finishing second. Snyder Leads Wildcats with Top-10 Individual Finish University of Kentucky Press Release
University of Kentucky freshman men’s golfer David Snyder and junior Chase Parker each shot career-best rounds en route to shooting a combined 9-under par Tuesday in the final round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The UK men’s golf team recorded the second lowest round of the day, and surged into a tie for ninth place in its first tournament of the spring season. Snyder, a Somerset, Ky., native, entered the final round at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course (par 72, 7,160 yards) in a tie for 37th after opening rounds of 3-over-par 75 and 1-over-par 73. On Tuesday, however, Snyder’s game was on point as he registered five birdies to just one bogey. Snyder’s 4-under-par 68 propelled him up the leaderboard to a tie for 10th place, the best finish of his collegiate career, and the best 54-hole total of his collegiate career. “I want to give a big congratulations to David for earning his first top-10 finish of his young career,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “I look forward to watching him have many more over the next three-and-a-half years of his career.” Snyder began his round with a bogey on his opening hole, the par-4 10th, which ended up being the second most difficult hole on the course Tuesday. The freshman responded with a birdie on No. 13, a par 5 stretching 559 yards. Snyder would make the turn at even par before coming in with a 4-under-par 32, including three straight birdies on hole Nos. 4-6 to finish with a 4-under-par 68, the best round of his career. Snyder wasn’t the only UK golfer to succeed Tuesday, as the Wildcats closed out the tournament with a final round of 3-under par, 285. Kentucky’s 285 was the second lowest round of the day, and the fifth lowest team round of the tournament. “It was great to finish off the even with a solid round today,” Craig said. “This team has great potential and we saw a little bit of it today with Chase Parker and David Snyder posting a combined 9-under par between them.” Parker raced up the leaderboard Tuesday with a final round of 5-under-par 67, the lowest round of his career. The Augusta, Ga., native entered the round in a tie for 62nd after rounds of 76 and 77 on Monday. A junior, Parker got off to a hot start, birdying his opening hole, No. 10, before eagling No. 11, a 398-yard par 4. Parker would make the turn at 5-under-par and birdie Nos. 3 and 6 to get to 7-under-par on the day, but bogeyed Nos. 7 and 9 to finish with a 5-under-par 67. Junior Joseph Barr fired a final round 6-over-par 78 to finish in a tie for 45th, sophomore Stephen Powers shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish in a tie for 54th, and sophomore Cody Martin shot a final round 2-over-par 74 to place in a tie for 60th. In addition to the Wildcats, 14 other schools competed in the tournament, including host school South Alabama, Akron, Arkansas State, Illinois, Illinois State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Toledo, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. For the first time, the University of South Alabama Individual Tournament ran at the same time as the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The USA Individual Tournament, which was held at the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course (par 71, 7,051 yards), closed out Tuesday with sophomore Matthew Anderson finishing in a tie for 10th after a final round 1-over-par 73. Senior Mads Kristensen finished 13th, freshmen Will Bishop and Todd McDaniel each finished in a tie for 14th, while junior Seth Blann finished in a tie for 26th. Kentucky will compete again in two weeks at the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Tampa, Fla., on March 4-6. Kentucky men's golf team documents golf tour of Scotland University of Kentucky Press Release
June 26, 2012
Royal Troon was the site of round one of the 2012 "Scotland Cup" Blue-White matches. The Blue Team, led by UK assistant coach Jesse Mudd, overcame a 3-0 deficit to take a 6.5-5.5 lead after the first day of competition. The duo of Joseph Barr and Todd McDaniel got the White Team off to a fast start with a 3-0 win over UK rising sophomore David Snyder and former UK golfer Cale Barr. Leading the way for the Blue squad was Will Bishop with a 65. Partnering with Chase Parker, Bishop upset UK head coach Brian Craig and rising junior Cody Martin by a 2-1 count, making an historical 2-2 on the par 4 No. 7 and Postage Stamp No. 8 hole. Craig and Martin won the back nine to save a point. UK Rising junior Stephen Powers and Cameron Mills overwhelmed John Powers and Mads Kristensen 2.5 to 0.5. As expected, Mudd teamed with Kentucky rising junior Matthew Anderson to slide past UK rising senior Seth Blann and captain Tim Philpot 2-1. Blann's birdie on the ninth hole gave the White Team a crucial point for the front nine. June 28, 2012
The home of the inaugural Open Championship saw a rout Thursday afternoon, as the West of Scotland Blue-White matches ended with the Blue Team winning 11.5 out of a possible 12 points. The matches were played on a breezy morning at Old Prestwick, which hosted The Open Championship in 1860. The four-round match was essentially over Wednesday afternoon after UK rising senior Chase Parker's 65 led the Blue Team at Turnberry to an insurmountable lead. UK assistant coach Jesse Mudd shot a bogey-free 67 in the rain to recover the match that seemed all but lost. Behind Parker and Mudd, the Blue Team won 11.5-0.5 in a heavy Scottish rain at 10:00 p.m. local time. Rising sophomore David Snyder led Blue in the Wednesday morning round at Western Gailes with a 69, as the Blue Team garnered 7.5 out of a possible 12 points. A bright spot for the White Team on Thursday was Seth Blann's 70 at Old Prestwick as Blann and UK head coach Brian Craig took six points for the White Team. The team now moves on to St. Andrews for a rematch in the East of Scotland Blue-White matches. Match one and two Friday and Saturday will be at Kingsbarns and The Old Course at St. Andrews, before moving to Carnoustie for the singles finals on Sunday afternoon.

"We have decided to totally change up our fall schedule this year and have some extraordinary trips planned," said Craig. "It will be a fantastic experience for this team to get to play on the west coast a couple times as well as the Wolf Run and Jack Nicklaus events this semester." The fall campaign will begin Sept. 15-16 at the Wolf Run Invitational in Zionsville, Ind. before heading across the country to the Saint Mary's College Invitational in Monterey, Cal. on Sept. 24-25. After a couple weeks off, Kentucky will head to Dublin, Ohio, for the Jack Nicklaus Invitational. The Wildcats spring begins Jan 13-16 in Palm Beach, Fla., for the Alumni Match. Kentucky will be paired with alumni from the program over the span of the four day event at Old Palm Golf Club and The Dye Preserve Golf Club. The Wildcats will travel to Auburn, Ala., March 11-12 for the Tiger Invitational at Grand National, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed course. From Auburn, Kentucky will travel to Statesboro, Ga., for an eighth consecutive year, competing in the Schenkel Invitational on March 15-17. "We are ready to get this season underway and see what this team is capable of," said Craig. "The future is bright for this young group of guys and this schedule will definitely help prepare us for the postseason championships." The Wildcats are looking to improve on a 2011-12 campaign that resulted in five top-five finishes, including a first-place finish at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational. Cody Martin led Kentucky, competing in all 12 events while posting a 73.18 scoring average.

Stoops talks about Jacob Hyde's improved physique and flexibility University of Kentucky Press Release
Mark Stoops spoke to reporters on Wednesday for the final time before Kentucky's Saturday trip to Georgia. Once again, the Wildcats delivered the kind of effort he expects. "Moving forward with the week," Stoops said. "Got some good work in today, and I thought our energy was good, thought the guys were practicing hard and doing as best we can. So, moving forward, looking forward to getting on with the preparation for Georgia." Playing an important role in that preparation, both this week and all season, has been UK's scout team. Each week, the Wildcat backups are tasked with simulating the upcoming opponent's scheme while also working to improve. Included in that group is a handful of players redshirting this season who might not be seeing the field, but that certainly doesn't mean they are putting in less work. In fact, they are in the weight room much more often with an eye on contributing next season and beyond. "They do more than our travel team," Stoops said. "The guys that are redshirting and not playing are lifting much heavier and of course, when we're traveling and things like that, they get in some extra lifts over the weekend. So they are gaining some weight and getting some strength." Stoops mentioned defensive lineman Jacob Hyde as a player who has improved his physique and flexibility and he was the first player Jalen Whitlow named when asked about the scout team. Amusingly, Whitlow compared the Manchester, Ky., native to the cartoon character Binky, a bulldog from the children's television show and book series. "He is an animal out there sometimes," Whitlow said.

Tyler "Chip" McDaniel signs with Kentucky Golf University of Kentucky Press Release
University of Kentucky men's golf head coach Brian Craig announced the signing of three golfers to National Letters of Intent for the 2014 signing class on Thursday, as Cristian DiMarco (Longwood, Fla.), Tyler McDaniel (Manchester, Ky.) and Fred Allen Meyer (Nicholasville, Ky.) became the newest members of the Wildcat family. "I don't want to get ahead of myself but it is hard to contain my excitement for Fred Allen, Tyler and Cristian signing with Kentucky," Craig said. "This class has the chance to be the greatest class Kentucky men's golf has ever seen. The record is there, the talent is there and most importantly, the desire to be great is there with all three of these fine young players. We will have a lot of work to do and it will not be easy, but I will not have to coach effort with these guys. They are dedicated to their craft and each has the trait that I love the most - moxie. I am looking forward to a memorable four years with these young men leading Kentucky to another SEC Championship and the pursuit of our first NCAA Championship." Tyler McDaniel A native of Manchester, Ky., and Clay County High School, McDaniel will join his older brother Todd on the UK men's golf team in 2014-15. McDaniel is a highly-decorated recruit that brings several accolades to Lexington. He was the 2013 National PGA Junior Champion with scores of 70-70-65-69 and the 2013 Kentucky State Amateur Champion (68-67-68), where he won by six shots to tie the tournament record. McDaniel was also the 2013 Kentucky Junior Amateur Champion for the third straight year. He posted four consecutive top five finishes at the Kentucky High School state tournament and is a three-time KGA-PGA Junior Player of the Year. The 2011 Mr. Golf of Kentucky registered a scoring average of 69.8 during his senior season. He recorded his low round of 65 on three different occasions. Additionally, McDaniel is a standout on the hardwood, where he was named First Team All-State and the 13th Region MVP. He helped lead the basketball team to a regional championship. In the classroom, McDaniel has earned Academic All-State honors each year of high school and carries a 4.0 GPA. "Tyler is a 5-star player with a brilliant record on the national level," Craig explained. "He is the reigning Junior PGA Champion where he birdied his last two holes to win by one shot. He has tremendous poise, lets his clubs do the talking and has the heart of a champion. He is a gifted athlete and one of the most naturally talented golfers that I have witnessed. Tyler's swing is simple and produces one quality shot after another. His ball striking is at a level not seen very often in junior golf. He has jumped through quite a few hurdles to graduate early and enroll next fall. Tyler is ready for the next level and I can't wait to coach him and help him achieve his goals. He is going to have a long and distinguished career as a member of the Wildcat golf family." Cristian DiMarco DiMarco comes from Longwood, Fla., and is a six-year letterwinner at Lake Mary Prep. This fall, DiMarco helped lead his high school team to a state championship, which was the school's first state championship in any sport. He recorded a 63 in the Florida High School Regional Championship to win the event. He finished second out of 150 players at the FCWT National Championship. DiMarco was named the team MVP after his junior campaign, while also earning Brighthouse Athlete of the Week honors. Additionally, DiMarco played basketball and tennis during his freshman year in high school. "Cristian has a fantastic record in junior golf with the ability to shoot very low scores like the 63 he recently shot in the Florida High School Regional Championship," Craig said. "He is a very mature young man with outstanding character and steadfast determination. He also has excellent fundamentals and a short game that can compete with anybody. I firmly believe that Cristian's best golf is ahead of him and that he is going to be a terrific college player at the highest level. I have known his family for many years and it will be a privilege for me to coach him during his time representing the Big Blue Nation. The future is bright for Cristian and he is going to be fabulous addition to our program." Fred Allen Meyer Meyer hails from Nicholasville, Ky., where he attends West Jessamine High School. Meyer has won two individual KHSAA State Championships and was named the John Owens Kentucky Amateur of the Year. He has also been named an AJGA Rolex All-American. During the fall, Meyer registered a 68.6 scoring average, while posting a low round of 64. Throughout his career, he played in seven KHSAA state tournaments and was named to the All-State Team all four years of high school. He registered six AJGA top five finishes. "Fred Allen is a tremendous, proven player who will be a great addition to our team and an immediate impact player," Craig said. "He is the reigning Kentucky Golf Association Player of the Year and just keeps getting better every year. I love his character and his desire to be great in this game. Fred Allen is what I call a game time player. He tends to play his best when it matters most as evidenced by him birdieing seven of the last 11 holes to win the Kentucky High School Golf Championship this fall for the second year in a row. He also has a game that is built for the challenging courses we play in college golf. He hits it high, hard and can roll his rock. I like that combination and can't wait to help him have an outstanding career as a Kentucky Wildcat."
