WYMT-TV Clay County work release inmate escapes
On Monday two inmates in Perry County and one in Clay County escaped from work release. That makes at least four inmates who have escaped just this month in Eastern Kentucky. Frankie Joe Brumley was working at Paces Creek Elementary School in Clay County on Monday when he walked away from his assigned area. There are some guidelines for these work release programs. Clay County Jailer Kenny Price says they must be non-violent offenders. But when inmates do escape, officials say it's usually not for long. When it comes to why the inmates escape, both jailers say they are really not sure since many of the escapees are close to their release dates. If you have any information about the escapees you should contact police. www.wkyt.com/wymt/home/headlines/Three_work_release_inmates_escape_in_the_same_day_162796346.html

WYMT TV State auditors investigating Cumberland Valley District Health Department
Officials from the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts have confirmed an ongoing investigation into the Cumberland Valley District Health Department. After a state audit was requested for the CVDHD, a pre-termination conference was held to see if Director Kathy Fields would keep her job. Fields has been with the department for close to 30 years and has served as the director for four years. Several employees came to support her at the meeting, saying they could not understand why she would lose her job. In a 5 to 2 vote the board decided to place fields on paid administrative leave. No board officials would comment but Chairman Dr. John Parsons said they will hold another special called meeting to decide whether fields will keep her job with the department. The department serves Clay, Jackson, Rockcastle and Harlan counties. A termination notice was rescinded and Lynette Rinner was named the interim director for the department. Board officials said the next special called meeting will likely take place sometime next week. www.wkyt.com/wymt/home/headlines/State-auditors-investigating-Cumberland-Valley-District-Health-Dept-165478716.html

WYMT Some parents, coaches want Clay County school policy changed
A group of parents and coaches in Clay County are asking the school board to change their retention policy pertaining to athletics. In 2009, the Clay County School Board changed the rules so that starting in fifth grade, students only have four years of eligibility to play sports before high school even if they are held back in those upper elementary grades. School officials say the main reason the board changed the policy had to do with making sure kids graduate. Coaches in Clay County also say there are other benefits to retention other than athletic including academic and maturity. School officials say the board will look at all arguments before making a decision. It is up to each school district to decide their policy on retention and athletic eligibility at the upper elementary and middle school levels. www.wkyt.com/wymt/home/headlines/Some-parents-coaches-want-Clay-Coschool-policy-changed--172738471.html
