centralkynews.com Boyle County tunes up for Clay County with win over Whitley
Boyle County is as ready as it’s going to get. The Rebels have been building a head of steam on the way to the postseason, and they shoveled more coal into the engine Friday night in a 38-7 victory over Whitley County at Colonel Stadium. They took control of the game early and kept crippled Whitley from doing much about it as they rolled into the playoffs with their third straight blowout win. The victory also gave Boyle (6-4) its longest winning streak of the season and a winning regular-season record for the fifth consecutive year and the 17th time in the last 19 years. Whittle threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, Seph Burke ran for 140 yards and scored two touchdowns and Boyle’s defense held Whitley (6-4) far below its offensive averages. The Rebels open the Class AAAA playoffs at home this Friday against Clay County (4-6), which has lost five of its last six games, but they could also face district winners Russell County and Lexington Catholic on the road in the regional rounds. www.centralkynews.com/amnews/sports/highschool/amn-prep-football-boyle-county-rolls-over-whitley-county-387-20121027,0,5068710.story

Central Kentucky News Tough games have Boyle County and Clay County ready for playoffs by HAL MORRIS
Boyle County plays Highlands, John Hardin and Danville early in the season to get ready for November. Now Boyle coach Larry French said the Rebels are playing their best football as the Class AAAA playoffs begin, starting this week when Clay County coming to Rebels Stadium. And stopping Clay (4-6) means slowing down Kentucky recruit Jacob Hyde, a 6-3, 325-pound senior lineman who has 49 tackles on the year. But French said Boyle (6-4) won’t do anything different to adjust to Hyde to start off. Clay has not been clicking at the end of the year, losing five of its final six games. But four of those losses came to Knox Central, Russell County, Bell County and Breathitt County, all highly ranked in their classes. The Tigers’ offense comes in averaging 23 points and 330 yards per game, and the Tiger mainly try to get the ball to running back Sam Carr and running back/receiver Joey Dezarn. Carr, a 5-10, 165 pound sophomore, has rushed for 1,277 yards and 14 touchdowns ad has 15 catches for 236 yards and two scores. Dezarn, a 6-foot, 170 pound senior, has rushed for 455 yards and two scores and has 22 catches for 558 yards and four scores. Quarterback Ryan Holland is 65 of 110 passing for 1,116 yards and eight touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He has also rushed for 117 yards and five scores, while receiver Travis Smith has 18 catches for 189 yard and two touchdowns. Beside Hyde, French said Christian McNeal, a 6-3, 245 pounder, has been impressive on the line. Boyle’s defense is giving up 21 points and has forced 24 turnovers, including 18 interceptions. Josiah Robbins has four of those picks, and Lloyd Hall has three, while Zack Coffey has two fumble recoveries. Kyle Kephart leads the team with 60 tackles, Austin Muntz has 58 and Keegan Kendrick 55. Boyle’s offense, which is putting up 39 points and 410 yards per game, will be going against a Clay defense which allows 31 points and 268 yards per game. Quarterback Casey Whittle is 93 of 178 passing for 1,538 yards and 19 touchdowns. Seph Burke has carried 184 ties for 1,155 yards and four 14 touchdowns. Hall has caught 29 passes for 503 yards and four scores, and has rushed for 478 yards and four ore touchdowns. Robbins has 20 catches for 442 yards and six touchdowns and has run for two more and Blake Mason has 18 catches for 250 yards and four scores. www.centralkynews.com/amnews/sports/amn-prep-football-boyle-county-preparing-for-another-playoff-run-by-hosting-clay-county-on-friday-20121101,0,6824091.story

Jacob Hyde reacts to the firing of Joker Phillips
Kentucky's lone in-state commitment for 2013 chimes in on Sunday's news of a coaching staff change for the Wildcats at the end of the season according to SuperPrep.com. "It was sad to hear," said Clay County defensive lineman Jacob Hyde, "It's hard for me to see him leave because I've always liked Joker Phillips. Hyde told Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal that he remains firmly committed and said he'll be at Samford game "with my blue on." Read the Mitch Barnhart letter to BBN bit.ly/YqUhSX

courier-journal.com Hyde, nine other UK commitments weigh in on Joker Phillips’ firing by Steve Jones
Clay County High School defensive tackle Jacob Hyde plans to play football at the University of Kentucky no matter who the coach is. Still, Hyde – the Wildcats’ first commitment in the 2013 class and their only one from Kentucky – was sad to hear the news on Sunday of the firing of UK head coach Joker Phillips. The powerful 6-foot-3, 315-pound player said he remains firmly committed to UK despite the news. The nine other UK commitments – among UK’s 14 total – who were reached by phone on Sunday all said they remain pledged, too, although most are taking a wait-and-see approach to how the new hire affects them. Hyde remains resolute in the commitment he made to the Wildcats in the spring. He’s attended all but one UK home game this season, including Saturday’s 40-0, rock-bottom loss to Vanderbilt. Hyde said he’ll be back at Commonwealth Stadium in two weeks for the home finale against Samford. Jacob Hyde
Jacob Hyde interviewed by ESPN.com By Dave Hooker, ESPN.com
Whoever Kentucky's next coach is, he'll have a big defensive tackle to build around. Jacob Hyde, a 6-foot-2, 315-pound prospect, said he is still committed to the Wildcats despite coach Joker Phillips' firing on Sunday. "It was a surprise," Hyde said of Phillips' dismissal after a 40-0 loss to Vanderbilt that dropped Kentucky to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the SEC. "It hurt to see him go. He and the coaching staff treated me like a [current Kentucky] player." insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/southeast/post?id=10568

Round One High School Football Playoff Highlights
Last weekend, the high school football playoffs kicked off. As is typical of the first round, there were plenty of lopsided wins and blowouts. But there were a number of impressive performances none-the-less. Nine Boyle County backs combined for 272 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, as the Rebels cruised past Clay County 72-20. Seph Burke led the way with 90 yards and three scores. Quarterback Casey Whittle threw for 126 yards and a pair of TDs. Knox Central running back Jeffery Canady exploded for 263 yards and four touchdowns, as the Panthers topped Mercer County 41-20. Jonathan Gist's night wasn't too shabby either. He finished with 164 yards and a TD for Knox. Nick Britt was equally impressive in Russell County's 52-0 win over Marion County. The Laker running back finished with 232 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns. Richard Trent accounted for seven Breathitt County touchdowns, as the Bobcats bowled over Sheldon Clark 59-14. The senior scored on more than half of his rushing attempts, rolling up 113 yards and five TDs in just nine carries. Trent also threw for 180 yards and two more scores. Franklin County quarterback Logan Woodside put up some typically gaudy numbers in the Flyers' 48-10 victory over Scott. The QB completed 12 of his 15 pass attempts for 281 yards and five touchdowns. He also scored a running TD. www.lex18.com/news/round-one-high-school-football-playoff-highlights

UK commitment Jacob Hyde comments on UK’s hiring of Mark Stoops by Steve Jones
The Tuesday hire of Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as the University of Kentucky’s new head football coach is good news for the Wildcats’ recruiting efforts, according to high school prospects and coaches. Stoops received positive reviews, including from some of UK’s 14 Class of 2013 commitments who were reached for interviews, as an assistant from a powerhouse program and a member of a famous coaching family. UK commitment Jacob Hyde, a Clay County defensive tackle who is the Cats’ only in-state pledge. “I really don’t know much about him,” UK commitment Jacob Hyde of Clay County High School said. “It sounds like he’s got a pretty good background and a pretty good bloodlines with his brothers (Bob and Mike). It’s a defensive hire, and that’s something we can improve on.” Hyde, a 6-foot-3, 330-pound player, is UK’s only in-state commitment and perhaps its firmest pledge. He hopes Stoops’ staff will honor his scholarship offer, and he looks forward to meeting the coach. blogs.courier-journal.com/recruiting/2012/11/27/high-school-prospects-coaches-praise-uks-hiring-of-mark-stoops

UK commit, Hyde, hears from Stoops Posted by Steve Jones
Thursday appeared to be the night that new University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops began to reach out to recruits. UK commitments Blake McClain, Alvonte Bell and Khalid Thomas, all of whom are from Florida; and UK pledge Jacob Hyde of Clay County (the Cats’ only in-state commitment) all said they got calls from the new coach. They are generally regarded as four of the Cats’ best committed players. All said they were glad to hear from the new coach, who told them their offers to UK still stand. None said that he made any mention of what kind of schemes he’d run or assistants he’d hire. Stoop is serving as Florida State’s defensive coordinator through at least Saturday’s ACC championship game against Georgia Tech. Hyde, who was UK’s first commitment in the 2013 class, has remained very solid in his pledge throughout a 2-10 season, attending nearly every UK home game. Hyde, a powerful 325-pound defensive tackle, said he it was an emotional moment for him to hear from Stoops that his offer to UK is safe and that he’ll be able to remain in the fold for the Cats. “He said, ‘Is this Jacob Hyde?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is your new head coach,’” Hyde recounted. “I just about started crying when I started talking. I was shocked. I mean he’s only be the head coach for two days, and for him to call me after that is really big.” Hyde said Stoops asked him if he was going to consider any other colleges. Hyde responded that if Stoops would honor his commitment, he’d remain pledged to the Cats. Hyde said Stoops mentioned coming to see him soon. Hyde was impressed with his first conversation with the coach. “He sounded like a really great person, a good guy,” he said. “From his background and his bloodline, he sounds like he’s ready to turn this program around. Look at what he did to Florida in what, two or three years?” blogs.courier-journal.com/recruiting/2012/11/30/uk-commits-bell-hyde-mcclain-thomas-hear-from-stoops

centralkynews.com Stoops to honor Hyde's Kentucky scholarship offer By LARRY VAUGHT
Clay County defensive lineman Jacob Hyde got a bit worried when Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops was named Kentucky’s new coach. Hyde was the first in-state player to verbally commit to Kentucky and didn’t know if his commitment would be honored by Stoops. That was quickly taken care of when Stoops called to assure Hyde that he had a future at Kentucky and kept Hyde from having any reason to panic Sunday at Stoops’ introductory press conference when he said only commits that were the “right fit” for his system would have scholarship offers honored. Hyde figures he’ll get to meet new defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot when he takes his official visit next month. www.centralkynews.com/amnews/sports/uk/amn-uk-football-clay-county-commit-jacob-hyde-impressed-with-new-coach-mark-stoops-20121207,0,821448.story

ksrcollege.com UK commit Jacob Hyde: Country Strong by Tyler Johnson
Forget the basketball struggles for a minute (what basketball? Exactly.) and allow me to introduce you to Jacob Hyde, a 3-star defensive tackle from Manchester, Ky. Hyde, who is 6′ 3″, 325 pounds, committed way back on February 29th, 2012, and was the first in-state commit in the Class of 2013. He committed to UK after receiving a scholarship from Coach Joker Philips when he participated in a summer camp in Lexington. Hyde admittedly was nervous when new Head Coach Mark Stoops was hired, but his worries were relieved when Coach Stoops contacted him within 48 hours of being hired to express his desire to keep Hyde as a Wildcat. Jacob Hyde also participated in the National Underclassmen Combine in Lexington where he was named overall MVP and won the Strongest Man Award at the camp. Hyde was chosen to play in the Kentucky/Tennessee Border Bowl where he led his Kentucky teammates to a victory over their Tennessee foes, 29-27. I grew up in southeastern Kentucky and had a couple friends play in the Border Bowl; it is a huge honor and accomplishment to not only be asked to participate but to win as well. This was only the second victory in the series for Kentucky. Hyde, by all accounts, is a very friendly and likable person and has obviously become a star in his small mountain town following his commitment to UK after receiving interest from Louisville, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Purdue. Watch the video below; dude is big, comes from my part of the state, and volunteers at God’s Closet. Can’t ask for much more than that. Go [Football] Cats. ksrcollege.com/?p=13543

Six members of the 2013 U.S. Under-19 National Team have unfinished business By Joe Frollo and Steve Alic
Six members of the 2013 U.S. Under-19 National Team played in the 2012 IFAF Under-19 World Championship last summer in Austin, where Team USA lost to Canada in the gold medal game, 23-17. None of them want to take that feeling home with them again. “I’m here for one reason,” said defensive lineman Jacob Hyde of Manchester, Ky., who will play for the Kentucky Wildcats, “and that’s to get our gold medal.” Hyde and the others will stress to their teammates the importance of not overlooking the talent on the IFAF World Team. Many of Canada’s gold-medal winning players will suit up Tuesday, including World Championship MVP Kevin McGee, a defensive back. internationalbowl.com/haskins-and-lauina-are-opponents-now-teammates-soon

Jacob Hyde
JACOB HYDE and his U.S. NATIONAL TEAM WINS FOURTH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL BOWL
The 2013 International Bowl was about redemption for the U.S. Under-19 National Team. The sport is bigger than ever, played in every corner of the Earth with 64 International Federation of American Football member nations on six continents. But this is our game. It's called American football for a reason. A year after surrendering the International Bowl title to the IFAF World Team, the United States left no doubt who would wear the crown this time, jumping out early and cruising to a 42-10 win Tuesday night at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin, Texas. On Wednesday morning, Team USA players will sign their national letters of intent with 34 colleges in 10 NCAA FBS conferences. Jacob Hyde of Clay County is expected to sign with the University of Kentucky. For this night, however, it was about celebrating their country before focusing on themselves. "We were not going to take anything but a win," U.S. linebacker and team captain Cory Jasudowich (Cheshire, Conn.; Connecticut) said. "We were not letting this one get away from us." None of the Team USA players or coaches were part of the group that fell, 35-29, in 2012 - the first loss ever for the Under-19 program. Six of these players, including Hyde, were on the 2012 summer team that finished second to Canada in the IFAF Under-19 World Championship. From the jubilation on the U.S. sideline as the clock wound down, nobody would have known this team came together just a week ago. This was not an all-star game. This was a National Team competition. All 44 players and eight coaches shared in the feeling that it was up to them to restore America's honor. "This team came here for the right reasons," U.S. head coach Aaron Brady (Washington, D.C.; Gonzaga College Prep) said. "We wanted to bring the pride back." In all, the U.S. ran 68 plays compared to 32 by the World for a 422-142 advantage in yards.

herald-leader.com Clay County's Hyde glad Kentucky's Stoops stuck with him By Mark Story
Of all the recruits in Kentucky's 2013 signing class, none have been with the Cats as long as Jacob Hyde, The 6-foot-2, 313-pound defense tackle from Clay County committed to the old Kentucky staff of Joker Phillips last March 1. In a sense, Hyde has been with the Wildcats even longer than that. After Phillips and his staff were fired, Hyde acknowledged some anxious moments when he wondered whether the new UK coaching staff would have a place for him. Two days after Mark Stoops got the UK head coaching job, he called Hyde to let him know his scholarship offer was still good. Hyde said UK coaches have told him he will start out getting a chance to play defensive line. Clay County Coach Evan Napier said Hyde will need to improve on technique in adapting to life in the Southeastern Conference. vaughtsviews.com Stoops says keeping Clay County lineman Jacob Hyde was important for Kentucky By LARRY VAUGHT
While Jason Hatcher waited until Wednesday to make his commitment to Kentucky, Clay County defensive lineman Jacob Hyde was the first member of UK’s recruiting class for then coach Joker Phillips and his staff. New Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Wednesday he was glad to have Hyde in his first recruiting class. “Absolutely, very important to keep Jacob. Big, strong guy I love his accent,” said Stoops. “Just a great person to be around. Big, strong guy and very excited to have him in our program. “We worked extremely hard to get some big guys. You need some size, you need girth but you always need size in this program because those guys take a bit of time to develop as well. Some guys come in ready to go and other guys need a couple of years to develop and get bigger and stronger.” vaughtsviews.com/stoops-says-keeping-clay-county-lineman-jacob-hyde-was-important-for-kentucky
