Pikeville Women open with runner-up finish University of Pikeville Press Release
The University of Pikeville golf team opened their 2012-13 seasons this week with the women's team posting a runner-up finish in the Bluegrass Fall Classic. Coach Nelson Scott's women finished a two-day event at 724, with a pair of freshmen leading the way in their first tournament on the collegiate level. Cumberland University, returning to fulltime status in the Mid-South Conference, had the top five finishers and shot 614 to win the event, at the par 72, 5800-yard Cherry Blossom Golf and Country Club in Georgetown. The host school finished third, two strokes behind the Bears. Freshmen Brittany Brophy and Christen Cropper led the Bears with matching 170s finishing tied for sixth. Brophy, from Paris, shot 87-83, while Cropper, a Maysville native, fired 84-86. Lauren Gregory, a sophomore from Manchester, finished with a 187, while freshman Laken McKinney of Ashley posted a 197. Two other Bears played in the event as well, as sophomore Hillary Harkins of Nicholasville shot 206 while Paintsville sophomore Jerri Helton finished at 196. The team will return to action on September 17-18, competing in the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament in Campbellsville.

Pikeville records runner-up finish in Asbury Fall Invitational University of Pikeville Press Release
The University of Pikeville women's golf team recorded a runner-up finish in the Asbury Fall Invitational, held at Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville on Saturday. Pikeville shot a one-day score of 375 on the 6,100-yard, Par-71 course, finishing three strokes behind tournament champion Transylvania University. Brittany Brophy, a freshman from Paris, Ky., fired an 85 to finish second in the individual draw and make the all-tournament team. She was three shots in back of Carrilee Hiers of Bryan (Tenn.) College, who won medalist honors with an 82. Sophomore Lauren Gregory was seventh in the field with a 95 Freshman Christen Cropper was tied for eighth at 96 on the day. Freshman Laken McKinney followed with a 99, while sophomore Hillary Harkins fired a score of 101. Sophomore Kristen Bullock, playing as an individual, finished with a score of 104. Pikeville will return to the course on Oct. 15-16 when it travels to Springfield, Ky., to play in the St. Catharine Fall Tournament.

UPIKE women finish third at St. Catharine University of Pikeville Press Release
The University of Pikeville golf teams continued their solid play this fall on Monday and Tuesday when they finished third and fifth in the St. Catharine Fall Invitational. The UPIKE women finished third while the men were fifth, both placing in the top half of the field of the two-day tournament held at the Par 72, 5812-yard Maywood Country Club in Springfield. The Pikeville women fired a two-day score of 721 to finish third in a six-team field. Lindsey Wilson ran away with the event, finishing at 658. Campbellsville's 674 was good for second. Christen Cropper, a freshman from Maysville, paced the Bears with a two-round score of 173. She finished tied for seventh in the 35-player field. Sophomore Hillary Harkins of Nicholasville recorded a 181 to finished tied for 12th overall. Sophomore Lauren Gregory and freshman Laken McKinney each finished with 184 for the event, while freshman Brittany Brophy came in at 189. The teams finish the fall portion of the schedule next Monday and Tuesday in the Union College Bulldog Fall Invitational, which will be held at Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville.

Lauren Gregory helps her Lady Bears make history University of Pikeville Press Release
University of Pikeville's Lauren Gregory improved by nine strokes with a round of 84 and nearly all of her teammates improved on day two to finish sixth as a team on Tuesday at the St. Catharine Invitational at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood. UPIKE took 340 strokes in the opening round, followed by a 327 performance on day two to finish with a score of 667 for the tournament. That combined score is the lowest in the history of the Bears' program. Cumberlands (Ky.) won the team championship with a 615 (308-307), Madonna (Mich.) was second with a 639 (320-319) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) rounded out the top three with a 643 (331-312). The St. Catharine Invitational marks the end of the fall season for Pikeville which will return to play in early March of 2014.
