Justin Hobbs has six points at Morehead By: Gary Stepp, ALC Athletic Director
The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Morehead to face NCAA Division 1 opponent Morehead State University. When the horn signaled the end of the contest, the hosts had earned the 101-50 victory. In the opening half, ALC battled hard and did a respectable job of handling Morehead’s pressure defense. Despite that fact, MSU used their strength and quickness to pull ahead 41-23 by intermission. In the second half, the host’s up-tempo defense finally began to pay dividends. They were able to break down the Eagles as they outscored them 60-28 over the final twenty minutes. For ALC (3-4) Tyler Rogers was the only player to reach double figures as he scored 14 points. He also pulled down 5 rebounds and added 3 blocks. Former Clay County Tiger scored 6 points. Center Terry Muse led in rebounding with 6, while junior Isaac Wilson tallied 5 assists to lead in that department. Morehead State (2-1) was led by forward Milton Chavis with 17 points.

Eagles Earn Win on the Road
Junior guard Isaac Wilson scored 24 points and added 6 assists and senior center Terry Muse added 17 points and ripped down 24 rebounds to spark Alice Lloyd College to a 94-62 victory over Crown College Saturday night. The Eagles came out of the gates putting points on the board as they raced to an early lead. By intermission, they led 49-35. In the second half, ALC took away any hopes of a Crown comeback as they steadily added to their output. They never were threatened as they kept the hosts at bay. In addition to the big two, the Eagles (4-4) also received double digit scoring from freshman Tyler Rogers and junior Blaine Green, each with 10. In addition, Rogers added 8 rebounds. Freshman guard Trevor Combs chipped in with 6 assists. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs finished with 5 points. Guard Nate Humphrey led Crown (3-3) with 26 points. The Eagles will next travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on Point Park University on November 21st.

Eagles Beaten in Tough Road Test Posted by mmiller
Alice Lloyd traveled to Pittsburgh to face the newest edition to the KIAC, the Point Park University Pioneers. The hosts rode their high-scoring offense to win 118-83. Point Park came out hot and led 15-2 after five minutes. The Pioneers hit 7 of 10, along with a couple of treys, to start the game while Alice Lloyd struggled offensively at 1-for-11. The Eagles responded with a 15-2 run of their own to tie the score at 17-17 with 10:47 to go in the first half. However, Point Park outscored ALC 40-20 before halftime to lead 57-37 at the break. The Pioneers scored 61 points in the final 20 minutes and sank 10 of their 15 treys in the second half to destroy any hopes of an Eagles comeback. For Alice Lloyd (4-5, 0-1 KIAC), junior point guard Isaac Wilson had a team-high 23 points, while senior center Terry Muse had 19 points and 13 rebounds. Guards Justin Hobbs, Stuart Stamper, and Cody Stumbo chipped in with 11, 10, and 10 points, respectively. Hobbs added 4 assists. Matt Noszka led The Pioneers (5-1, 1-0 KIAC) with 32 points. Point Park shot 52 percent for the game, while Alice Lloyd shot 47 percent.

Alice Lloyd’s Defense Sparks Big Home Win Posted by mmiller
Alice Lloyd held the visiting Montreat Cavaliers to just 31% field goal shooting to earn a 60-46 victory Tuesday night. In the first half, senior center Terry Muse scored 6 quick points to propel the Eagles to an early 8-3 lead. Alice Lloyd’s defense then took over as they held the Cavs to 28% shooting to jump ahead 33-18 by intermission. In the second half, Montreat refused to fold as they slowly cut the lead to just seven (47-40) with 6:55 remaining. At this important juncture, freshman forward Tyler Rogers took over. First, he emphatically threw down a massive dunk at 6:45. After a solid defensive possession, Rogers was fouled on the next trip down the floor and sank both charity tosses. After another Eagles defensive clinic, Rogers then posted up for a strong inside bucket. When the smoke cleared, ALC led 53-40 with 5:30 left on the clock, and the Cavaliers’ hopes for a comeback were dashed. For the victors (5-5) Rogers and Muse led the way with 14 and 13 points. In addition, Muse ripped down 14 rebounds and Rogers added 9. For good measure, each big man swatted 3 blocks apiece. Sophomore guard Justin Hobbs chipped in with 9 points and 3 assists. Montreat (2-6) was led by Ian McVie and La’Bris Adams with 12 points each.

Eagles Fall To AAC Opponent Milligan by Anthony Sizemore, Student Contributor
Alice Lloyd traveled to Johnson City, Tennessee to take on Appalachian Athletic Conference member Milligan College. In a game comprised of runs, the Eagles were defeated by the Buffaloes 74-63. After falling behind 6-2, ALC scored the next 12 points to take a 14-6 lead at the 12-minute mark. However, Milligan closed the half on a 28-14 run. This sent them into the locker room leading 34-28. Milligan extended the lead to as many as 18 in the second half before Alice Lloyd cut the margin down to 11. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way. ALC (6-6) had four players in double figures. Isaac Wilson led all scorers with 20 points. Terry Muse had 16 points and led the team in rebounds with 10. Cody Stumbo and Justin Hobbs added 11 points. Milligan (5-4) was led by Kurt Brooks and Torian Sitton with 13 points apiece. Alice Lloyd shot 36% from the field, including 5-16 beyond the arc. Milligan put the ball in the basket 54% of the time while connecting on 6-12 from three-point range.

Eagles Hang On to Score Important Conference Win
Alice Lloyd played host to the Brescia Bearcats in a battle of conference foes Saturday evening. In a highly competitive contest that went down to the wire, ALC held on to win 62-60. In the first half, the contest was a close affair. The Eagles shot a blistering 61% from the field in the first twenty minutes while Brescia shot 45%. At the half, the score was knotted up at 35. In the second half, the pace slowed down considerably as both clubs played conservative basketball. The Bearcats got the ball for one final shot to tie or win with 2.7 seconds remaining, but Jermaine Langley’s attempt bounced off the rim as time expired. For Alice Lloyd (7-7; 1-1 KIAC) Tyler Rogers and Cody Stumbo each scored 12 points while Issac Wilson added 11. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs had 8. The men won’t play again until next semester (January 4th) when they take on Point Park at home.

Eagles Basketball Resumes Season Play This Week
The Alice Lloyd College Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs are set to open up the second half of their respective seasons on January 4th in a double-header at ALC’s Grady Nutt Athletic Center. Both teams will be facing Point Park University out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Pioneers of Point Park in a game played earlier in the season, but the men lost to PPU on the road. The Lady Eagles are coming off of a stellar win in overtime versus UPike. They currently sit tied with Brescia for the #2 ranking in the KIAC. Point Park has the best record in the conference, having only lost to Alice Lloyd. The ALC men have had a tough season thus far, but have managed to hold steady at .500. They squeaked by Brescia in their final game before the Christmas break and will face a stiff challenge from Point Park this Friday, seeing that they will have to overcome some rust from not having played since December 8th. Much of ALC’s league play still lies ahead of them on the schedule. The games versus Point Park will be a challenging opening. Tipoff for the women’s game is at 2 PM with the men following at 4 PM. They will have a sharp turnaround on Saturday, January 5th, when the Lady Eagles are set to play host to Carlow University at 2 PM with the men following at 4 PM versus KIAC powerhouse IU Southeast. Eagles Basketball Spring Preview by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter
Coming off a challenging start to the 2012-13 season, the youthful Alice Lloyd Eagles are looking to have an even better campaign in the second half of the year. Finishing the opening half of the season at the .500 mark (7-7 overall, 1-1 in the conference), the men’s team have their sights set on bigger things this time around. The team returned only two starters from a year ago in Isaac Wilson, who led the team in points per game (15.6), steals per game (1.5) and assists per game (4.7) and big man Terry Muse. Wilson has played a major role since his arrival to Pippa Passes. The 5’9 junior guard from Corbin, Kentucky led the Corbin Redhounds to two 13th Region titles and two appearances in the Sweet Sixteen. He also recorded 105 wins during his time with Corbin. Some players are just born with leadership qualities and Wilson appears to fit that bill. “He’s a tough ballplayer,” says Muse. “He’s one of the best point guards in the league. What’s good about him is that he can develop his own shot and he can get others open. He can bust a three and he can take it to the rim and finish.” Muse is no slouch himself on the court. A 6’9 junior from Somerset, Kentucky, he is one of the biggest players in the league. His presence in the post makes it hard for the opposition to score points. The former Southwestern High School player creates problems on the offensive end for the opposition, as well. Muse says that the defense that was used last year allowed him to make a lot of blocks on the opposing teams. He felt he was just fortunate enough to be able to make the plays. Being 6’9 doesn’t hurt, either. The gentle giant was the team’s leading shot blocker with 3.6 blocks per game and was second in rebounds per game (8.3). He also led the NAIA in blocks per game and total blocks (101). When asked about what needed to be done to continue improvement, Muse responded by saying, “All-around we can improve the quality of our play on the defensive end, and, if we can knock down some outside shots and get the inside game going more, we will have a better chance of winning.” “Last year on offense he was a bit passive,” says assistant coach Casey Dalton. “At times we’d say ‘Terry, you’ve got to be aggressive. You’re big – nobody should be able to stop you.’ This year, he has turned into the Demarcus Cousins ‘dirty’ big man. He’s not being nice anymore. He’s starting to take the ball and pound it in, and we are starting to get some buckets from him. So, this is going to be scary. You’ve got Terry who is already a good defender and rebounder – if he can keep it up offensively, he can be a good, good player. Not just for us. I think he can even go overseas.” During the offseason, the Eagles acquired some players via transfer and re-enrollment: Stuart Stamper, Justin Hobbs, Tyler Rogers and Jordan Adkins. Stamper, a 6’2 guard from Hindman, Kentucky, made the switch from Union College to Alice Lloyd. He played in 29 games his freshman season and 20 games last year during his sophomore year, but transferred during the second half of the season. While he does a solid job on the offensive end, Stamper has developed a reputation for playing great on-the-ball defense. “He has been a big addition to this team,” Dalton said. “He brings a lot. It’s mainly just tenacity. He is just a guy that doesn’t want to get scored on. I think defensively, east-to-west, moving laterally, he is the best defender we have. He’s one of the best in the conference. His focus and hard work carries over into the games to the other teammates. Other guys see him working hard and getting stops. It gets other guys to play hard. I think it will pay off when we get into conference play and especially in the conference tournament.” Justin Hobbs, a sophomore guard from Manchester, Kentucky is back from a three-year sabbatical. Hobbs played at Clay County High School. He plays the game with a lot of determination, and his ability to drive to the basket is almost impeccable. Hobbs has some rust to knock off from his time away, but once he does that, he will be hard to stop. Tyler Rogers is a 6’7 forward from Lexington, Kentucky. “Stretch” played his high school ball at Dunbar High School. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor and take it to the basket, which, for his size, is a rarity in the NAIA. He can do a multitude of things on offense, and his wingspan and height cause a lot of chaos on the defensive end. “I can already tell you that Tyler Rogers is going to take the crown from me this year,” says Muse, making a reference to the NAIA shot blocking title. “He is a heck of a shot blocker. He will take it from me this year, I guarantee it. He is a big, tall and powerful presence inside, so hopefully we can control the middle, at least.” Jordan Adkins, a transfer from Asbury University, is a 5’10 freshman guard from Corbin, Kentucky. When asked about Jordan’s attributes, Dalton said, “He is going to be a heck of a guard for us. He’s got speed and quickness. He is someone who can penetrate and get into the middle of the defense, and I think that is something we are missing right now – someone who can split the defense and get guys open, find the open man. He is going to contribute big time after Christmas.” The rest of the roster is: Blaine Green, a junior forward from Middlesboro, Kentucky; Corey Hunter, a sophomore forward from Rowan County, Kentucky; Craig Faulkner, a sophomore guard from Elliot County, Kentucky; Trevor Combs, a freshman guard from Perry County, Kentucky; Cody Stumbo, a freshman guard from Bowling Green, Kentucky; Josh Lawson, a freshman forward from Lee, Virginia; and Nick Litton, a freshman forward from LaFollette, Tennessee. Hard-working Bill Deaton, a native of Buckhorn, KY, is the lone senior on the squad. The team is coached by J.R. Hammond. An alumnus and former player for ALC, Hammond wears the passion and pride of the Eagles on his sleeve. He is poised to turn things around. The players think he is a good coach on the court, but an even better person away from it. Dalton, himself a former Eagles player, stated about his mentor, “Personality-wise, I think Coach Hammond pushes guys to do their best. He is always looking to see how we can get better. That’s what I like most about him. He is always trying to study and help everyone improve, and I feel that it’s paying off.” Dalton added, “Another thing is that he’s a tremendous guy off the court. That helps a lot with a team. The team knows that he will be there for them, and he is big on character. It helps with recruiting and with guys staying at Alice Lloyd.” The team averaged about 73 points a game last season, but surrendered 78 points. So far in the 2012-13 season, they have averaged 74 points while giving up 75. That will be something to keep an eye as the season progresses.

Eagles Earn Road Victory at Johnson U
Alice Lloyd placed five men in double figures to defeat homestanding Johnson University 85-75 on Thursday. In the first half, the contest was close throughout as neither team could get much of an advantage. At intermission, the Eagles led 36-32. In the second half, ALC managed to pull ahead. Johnson fought to get back in the game, but was unable to overcome the deficit. For ALC (8-10), Terry Muse led the way with 19 points. He was closely followed by Tyler Rogers and Stuart Stamper with 17 and 16 apiece. Isaac Wilson and Justin Hobbs chipped in with 13 and 11, respectively. Muse and Rogers each had 6 rebounds while Wilson led the way with 4 assists. Eagles Come Up Short to Cincinnati Christian
The ALC Eagles faced a formidable conference opponent on Saturday as Cincinnati Christian University came to the Grady Nutt Athletic Center. In a game comprised of runs, CCU pulled out the 79-72 win. Alice Lloyd dug themselves an early hole against the Golden Eagles, who had recently played NCAA Division 1 opponent Radford University to overtime. CCU came out of the gates hot and quickly had a double-figure lead. They increased it to 17 points by the 10-minute mark. Tyler Rogers then helped spark an Eagles comeback that permitted the hosts to close the gap. By intermission, Cincinnati’s lead had dwindled to just six (34-28). In the second half, the visitors went ahead by double figures again, only to see the Eagles reduce the margin to just four with 5:00 on the clock. Unfortunately, CCU slammed the door shut by sinking critical free throws to ice the game. For ALC (8-11; 1-5 KIAC), Tyler Rogers paved the way with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Isaac Wilson and Stuart Stamper each added 14, while Terry Muse contributed 9 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks. For CCU (7-6; 2-1 KIAC), guard DJ McCommons led the way with 22 points. The Eagles will next face the St. Louis College of Pharmacy at Berea on January 18th. The game is set to tip at 7:30 PM.

The Alice Lloyd Eagles faced St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Friday, defeating the Eutectics 71-43. The match-up took place in Berea, Kentucky at Berea College’s Seabury Center. Throughout the first half, SLCOP kept things tight with the Eagles, but ALC went to the locker room with a 32-22 lead. January 19th ALC 85 IUE 101
The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Indiana University East on Saturday and came up short in a high-scoring affair against the Red Wolves, 101-85. Indiana East would jump out to a 29-12 advantage early in the first half before settling for a 52-40 halftime lead. In the second half, Alice Lloyd wasn’t able to overcome the deficit. Dakotah Euton leads Asbury to win over Eagles by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter, and Gary Stepp The Alice Lloyd Eagles faced the Eagles of Asbury University on Thursday. Alice Lloyd came up short in this conference matchup, 82-63. The game was played at the Seabury Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. The home team got off to a scintillating start as they would take a huge lead in the first half over the visitors. From the outset, it was a struggle for ALC to get into any kind of rhythm as they trailed 50-27 at intermission. In the second half, Alice Lloyd cut the lead down by as many as 13 points, but never got any closer. For Alice Lloyd (9-13, 2-7 KIAC), Tyler Rogers had 15 points to go with 8 rebounds on the night while Terry Muse also scored in double figures with 11 and snagged 7 rebounds. For Asbury (13-9, 4-3), Dakotah Euton led the team with 16 points. January 26th ALC versus the Brescia Bearcats The Eagles traveled to Brescia for another stiff test as they faced the Bearcats on Saturday. In a close contest, the hosts prevailed 75-65. In the first half, BU jumped out to a quick lead, but the visitors managed to slice into it over the closing minutes. The Bearcats only led 33-32 at intermission. In the second half, the game remained nip and tuck, but unfortunately, the Eagles were unable to mount a comeback. For ALC (9-14; 2-8 KIAC), Isaac Wilson and Tyler Rogers each chipped in with 13 points. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs finished with 4. Brescia (7-15; 2-7 KIAC) was led by Myron Christian with 20 points. The Eagles will be on the road again tomorrow, January 29th, as they take on Berea College. Eagles Falter at Berea by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter
The Alice Lloyd Eagles collided with the Berea Mountaineers on Tuesday night where the Eagles suffered another setback in conference play, 96-83. The game was played at the Seabury Center in Berea, Kentucky. Berea jumped out to a 22-11 start over Alice Lloyd early in the first half. The Eagles seemed unfazed by this as they would make a run to get within two of the home team. However, that would be short-lived as Berea would reel off a 29-12 run in the last seven minutes of the first stanza to take a 54-35 halftime lead. In the second half, the Eagles (9-14, 2-8 KIAC) were determined to rally against Berea. Alice Lloyd slashed into the lead, cutting the deficit down to five against the home team twice. Unfortunately, the Eagles could not get any closer as Berea (14-9, 6-2 KIAC) built their margin back up to double figures and would not allow another challenge. Cody Stumbo had 19 points for the Eagles while Terry Muse produced a good effort with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Justin Hobbs also got in on the action with 10 points. Berea’s Tevin Webster scored 26 points. The Eagles face their final opponent in this four-game road stretch on Saturday, February 2nd, versus IU Southeast. That game will be played at 4 PM.

Eagles Battle Nationally-Ranked IU Southeast by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter
Alice Lloyd traveled north on Saturday to take on the Grenadiers of IU Southeast in New Albany, Indiana. The Eagles continued their skid as they came up short in this conference battle, 89-71. The Eagles got off to a good start, taking a 9-5 lead about five minutes into the game. The game was very tight until the Grenadiers went on a 10-2 run midway through the 1st half. This would allow them to take a 42-33 advantage into the locker room. Alice Lloyd’s comeback attempt started off nicely in the 2nd half. The Eagles (9-17, 2-11 KIAC) went on an 8-2 run to start the second stanza. Unfortunately, this would be as close as the visitors would get. Alice Lloyd managed to remain in striking distance of IU Southeast (19-3, 9-0 KIAC), but was not able to make a run for the lead. The final score does not reveal the whole story of this game. ALC was able to stay within single digits of IUS, the #10 ranked team in the nation. It was only in the last five minutes of the game that the Grenadiers were able to successfully pull away from the visiting Eagles. For Alice Lloyd, Stuart Stamper played well with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Terry Muse added 18 points and 7 rebounds. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs finished with 7 points. For IU Southeast, Jake Simpson had 18 points. The Eagles will finally return home to face Asbury University on February 7th. The game will tip-off at 8 PM.

Eagles Lose Heartbreaker at Home by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter
The Alice Lloyd Eagles were back on their home court on Thursday night against conference foe Asbury. The home team put up a great fight, but came up short in the end by the final score of 62-60. The loss adds to the disappointment that the Eagles have been going through over the past two weeks. In most games, they have battled right down to the wire only to fall in the final seconds. In this one, the home team came out of the gates slow. The Eagles were down 14-7 midway through the first half. The home team would fight their way back to tie the game late in the first half before trailing by a halftime score of 28-25. ALC (9-17, 2-11 KIAC) had a sluggish start to the second half. Asbury (16-10, 7-4 KIAC) would go on an 8-2 run to make it 36-27. The home team would fight back to within three, but Asbury extended their lead back up to nine with eight minutes to go, 50-41. With five minutes remaining in the game, Alice Lloyd began another run and would tie the game at 56 apiece with 2:58 on the clock. After 4 points by the visitors, ALC guard Isaac Wilson made a basket to reduce the lead to two with 2.2 seconds to go. On the inbounds play, Asbury committed a turnover and the home team had one last chance. Terry Muse went up for a shot in heavy traffic, but was stripped of the ball. Alice Lloyd’s Stuart Stamper continued his recent success as he scored 15 points. Muse recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs finished the game with 7 points. CJ Penney led Asbury with 18 points. The Eagles now head back out on the road, traveling to face Cincinnati Christian University on Saturday, February 9th, at 2 PM.

Men Drop Close Decision at CCU by Gary Stepp, Director of Athletics & Anthony Sizemore
The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Cincinnati to face the conference’s hottest club, Cincinnati Christian, in a big KIAC showdown Saturday afternoon. In a contest that went down to the wire, the hosts held on for a 70-67 victory. In the first half, the Eagles played smart and did a good job controlling the tempo. Due to their patience, ALC led 25-22 at intermission. In the second half, Alice Lloyd extended their lead to as much as seven points. Alice Lloyd did a good job defensively as they held the home team to 33% (9-27) shooting, including 1-6 from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, Cincinnati made a comeback to go up by one late in the game. The Eagles had two shots to take the lead at the end, but unfortunately, they could not get either to drop. CCU then iced the game with late free throws. For the game Alice Lloyd shot 44 percent (26-for-58) from the field while Cincinnati Christian made 46 percent (25-for-54) of their shots. Alice Lloyd‘s (9-18; 2-12 KIAC) junior guard Stuart Stamper led the way with 23 points on 8-15 shooting. Isaac Wilson sank 6-9 field goals and dropped in 14 points, while freshman forward Tyler Rogers chipped in with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs finished with five. CCU (14-13; 8-4 KIAC), fresh off upset wins over nationally-ranked Indiana University Southeast and Berea College, won their fourth consecutive conference game. They were led by Kenny Gaynor with 25 points. The men will meet their next opponent on Saturday, February 16th, when IU East visits Pippa Passes. “Senior Day” activities will be going on throughout the day with the Eagles taking the court at 1 PM.

Alice Lloyd Has Stellar Senior Day by Anthony Sizemore, Student Sportswriter
Alice Lloyd celebrated its annual Senior Day festivities on Saturday, February 16th, at the College’s Grady Nutt Athletic Center. Prior to the big games, ALC’s senior student-athletes were honored in front of the home crowd. For men’s basketball, the Eagles showed their appreciation to Bill Deaton and burly, all-important center Terry Muse. Brittney Briggs and Rachael Lindon, co-captains of the ALC Cheerleading squad, were also recognized, along with Dance Team member Chelsea Bush. Afterwards, it was time for some basketball action in what would be the final regular season games for both ball clubs. The Alice Lloyd Eagles welcomed the KIAC‘s second ranked team, the Indiana University East Red Wolves. The hosts came out of the gates ready to play and would win a huge, nail-biting contest, 71-68. The game was very tight in the opening stanza as the biggest lead was only 5 points. Alice Lloyd led for most of the first half until IU East captured the lead with five and a half minutes to go, 26-25. ALC stayed right with the Wolves, though, as they only trailed by 2 at intermission, 34-32. The home team would make a huge run to open the second half. The Eagles took the lead with sixteen minutes to go in the game as they went on a 25-9 run to make it 54-43 with ten minutes to play. IU East engineered a comeback to take a 1-point lead, 63-62, with just over two minutes remaining. ALC scored on the ensuing possession with a three-pointer by Justin Hobbs that would give them the lead the rest of the way. IU East had one last chance to tie the game, but Marcus Isaac could not get the trifecta to go. For the victors, (11-18, 4-12 KIAC), Tyler Rogers played in beast mode. He scored 24 points, hauled down18 rebounds, and added 5 blocks. Stuart Stamper had 14 points, and Muse put in a respectable performance in his last home game with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Huston Clark led IU East (19-10, 9-5 KIAC) with 25 points. The Alice Lloyd Eagles will be the eighth seed going into the KIAC tournament that commences next week. They will travel to top-ranked Indiana University Southeast for a showdown on Saturday, February 23rd.

Eagles Push IU Southeast to End Season by Gary Stepp
The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to New Albany, Indiana to take on the league’s top-seeded Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast on Saturday. The match-up was in quarterfinal action of the KIAC Tournament. The visitors fought tooth and nail with the home team, but came up just short, 77-68. Despite a frustrating regular season where they dropped many conference games in the closing minutes of the contest, the Eagles had a chance to erase that from their memory as they had nothing to lose against nationally ranked (#11) IU Southeast. In the first half, the game was very tight and the lead changed hands until about twelve minutes to go. At that point, sparked by the play off the bench from freshman Nick Litton, ALC went on a 16-8 run to take a 33-23 lead with five minutes to go. Litton would ram in 12 points during that span. The road team continued their inspired play and they would take an eight-point lead into the break, 39-31. The Eagles shot a blistering 65% from the floor in the opening stanza while the hosts shot 57%. They also limited the favorites to only 8 rebounds while snatching 14 themselves. Alice Lloyd stayed out in front for most of the second half. IU Southeast made a run early to cut the lead to two, 43-41, only to watch the Eagles answer with a run of their own to increase their advantage once more to nine (52-43) with twelve minutes to go in the game. However, the proverbial wheels came off of ALC’s bus. The Eagles still led by 1 with five and a half minutes to go, but sparked by KIAC Player of the Year Cameron Mitchell, the Grenadiers would take the lead for good just a few seconds later, 62-61. From there, Alice Lloyd just ran out of gas. IUS would expand upon their advantage in the waning stages by sinking their free throws. For ALC (11-19), not even nationally-recognized IU Southeast could stop Stuart Stamper as the junior led all scorers with 25 points. Litton gave a standout performance with 16 points and 5 rebounds, while big Terry Muse had 10 points and 5 rebounds in his last game in an Alice Lloyd uniform. Former Clay County Tiger Justin Hobbs scored 4. IU Southeast (25-4) was led by Terence Billups with 16 points. Cameron Mitchell and Jake Simpson each added 15.
