God’s Grace Turns a Drug Dealer into a Church Planter Wisconsin If you had met MICHAEL THOMAS a decade ago, you wouldn’t have believed he would one day be a church planter. As a drug dealer, Michael spent his days partying and “running the streets.” God radically changed his life in 2010 when he accepted Christ as Lord. Today, he is planting House of Saints outside Milwaukee, Wis. As he connects with the community, Michael has become the head varsity basketball coach at a local school and serves as a police chaplain. Your gifts given through the Cooperative Program help Michael serve his community. Pray that God would draw people to Himself through House of Saints. The preceding "Missionary Moment" was made possible by gifts to the Southern Baptist Association Cooperative Program, which is supported by several Clay County churches who are members of the Booneville Baptist Association which consists of 25 churches in Clay and Owsley counties which are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Kentucky Baptist Convention. 1,000 Come to Faith after Trainings Sub-Saharan Africa IMB missionaries JEFF and BARBARA SINGERMAN trained people in 250 churches in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to share their faith using stories from God’s Word. In the days and weeks after the training, people shared testimonies of how God used the trainings to grow His kingdom. One local pastor reported 60 new believers in his fellowship. Ruth, a high school student, led five classmates to Christ. Paulin, a former gangster, returned to the streets to share the gospel, resulting in 19 former gang members getting baptized. The Singermans estimate that 1,000 people came to faith after the trainings. Praise God for Cooperative Program funds that facilitated this rapid spread of the gospel. Material things are a vital part of life, but not the most vital. Though we often measure our self-worth by what we possess, wealth itself cannot bring genuine meaning to life. Using wealth, such as giving to God through one’s church, is how wealth adds meaning to life. God’s Word and Spirit Break Through Central Asia “We gave this woman a Bible and left her alone for a year,” said Christian worker MARK BRACKIN* about NILUFAR*, a Muslim mayor in Central Asia. Another worker had shared with Nilufar and seen no fruit. But when Mark visited her again, Nilufar proclaimed faith in Jesus. She began sharing with her family and distributing a Christian film. “The Word of God and the Spirit of God [were] sufficient in her life to move her,” said Mark. He thinks it is possible dozens of families in Nilufar’s valley have heard the gospel and are following Jesus. Praise God for Cooperative Program funds that sent truth to a people group that previously had no known believers. Syrian Refugees Depending on God in Difficulty Central Asia After months of Bible studies with Christian workers DAVE and CAROL BRANSON*, seven Syrian refugees made the decision to follow Christ. The new believers reached out to other refugees and met seven other families who also wanted to study the Bible. The group is now learning to pray and depend on God through the difficulties they face. Their employers demand long hours and cheat them of their wages. Local school children hit and ostracize the refugee children. But through the Cooperative Program, hurting people are receiving hope. The women told Carol they rejoice as refugees because through those trials they found the truth. Pray for Europeans in South America Brazil Sharing Christ’s love with Europeans can be hard work, especially when you live in Brazil. But that’s exactly what IMB missionaries WENDY and STAN MEADOR strive to do. They work among European descendants in South America and develop strategies to reach their people groups. One strategy is to start house churches and small groups that will one day produce disciples who want to do the same work. Wendy asks for prayer for the European people groups in South America. As you give through the Cooperative Program, “Pray that more [Europeans] will have a desire to study God’s Word and that their hearts will be open to hear the truth contained in its pages.” The preceding "Missionary Moment" was made possible by gifts to the Southern Baptist Association Cooperative Program, which is supported by several Clay County churches who are members of the Booneville Baptist Association which consists of 25 churches in Clay and Owsley counties which are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
