Eunice D. Ledford, native of Clay County
Eunice D. Ledford, 73, of Canaan (IN) passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Ross Manor in Dillsboro. He was born at Trixie in Clay County, Kentucky on March 19, 1940 the son of Pearl and Lillie Colwell Ledford. Survivors include four brothers Charles (Pauline) Ledford of Englewood, Ohio, Arvil (Geraldine) Ledford of Dayton, Ohio, Seldon (Delores) Ledford of Crete, Illinois, and Hubert (Debbie) Ledford of Eaton, Ohio; one sister Donnetta (David) Pool of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother J. M. Ledford, and his sisters Mary Ledford and Bettie Bishop. Mr. Ledford was a self employed truck driver, retiring in 1982. Eunice attended the First Baptist Church in Dillsboro. Funeral services were held May 9th at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Delona Huffman, native of Clay County
Delona (Hacker) Huffman, 95, born October 25, 1917, in Clay County, Kentucky, peacefully departed this earth at her home on Barnes Mill Road in Richmond, Kentucky, on May 4, 2013. Delona was preceded in death by: her parents, Reuben Frank Hacker and Malvery (Burns) Hacker, of Oneida, Kentucky; her husband, Fred Ralph Huffman of Richmond; two brothers, Raleigh Hacker and Toleman Hacker; one sister, Ica (Hacker) Roberts; one son, Ralph Franklin Huffman, and one grandson, Jesse Wayne Huffman. Delona is survived by: one son, Durward Wayne Huffman, two daughters, Donna Sue (Huffman) Howell and Isa Veree (Huffman) Barnes, all of Richmond. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Delona graduated from Eastern State College in 1935 and began her teaching career in a one room school house in Clay County. After moving to Richmond in 1958, she became Director of Pupil Personnel forr the Richmond City Schools until her retirement in 1981. Delona was a member and past president of the Altrusa Club and the Richmond Woman’s Club, as well as a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She also was on the board of directors of Open Concern of Richmond. Her funeral and visitation was held at the Britton Funeral Home in Manchester, Kentucky. Mr. Hacker was born on January 28, 1928 in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of the late Leonard and Mae Allen Hacker. He was a retired service station owner and operator and was the owner of Hacker Bottle Gas Company. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW and a member of the Waco Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter: Paula Hacker Harvey, (Bob); three sons: John C. Mrs. Priscilla Ann Smith Roark born October 13, 1961 departed this life on Sunday July 14, 2013 at the Hazard ARH being 51 years of age at the time of her passing. Priscilla was born in Hyden, KY the daughter of the late Burley Smith and the late Amanda Revis Smith. Priscilla was also preceded in death by Three Brothers – Puvella, Kersley and Dillard Smith. Priscilla’s beautiful smile, warm heart and love for everyone will be missed by all that knew her. She could talk to people she just met, and they would walk away thinking they had known her for years. Priscilla always seemed to put a smile on the face of anyone she talked to, and never hesitated to help or bring confort to someone if they needed it. Mary ‘Evelyn’ (Simpson) Drabenstott, 74, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 11:32 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Bell County, Ky., to Noah Franklin Hendrickson and Pearlie Geneva (Hampton) Hendrickson. On June 25, 1969, she was married to Bobby Joe Simpson in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She attended Red Bird High School, Beverly, Ky. Mary lived in Warsaw and Kosciusko County for over 40 years. She was a seamstress at Jomac and in the past she worked for Brown Shoe in Pocahontas, Ark. She was a member of Word of Truth Ministries, Milford, Ind. She loved her Lord and listening to gospel music. Mary enjoyed crafting in general but especially crocheting, cutting recipes and pictures from the newspaper and she was very social. Mary was an amazing and self-sacrificing mom who adored her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters: Billie Jo (Mitch) Houtz, Mentone, Ind.; Bobbie Jo Pulsipher, Warsaw; two sons: William Bailey, Greensboro, N.C.; Harvey Lee Bailey, Mill Creek, Ky.; step-daughter: Scelina Payne, Missouri; step-son: Ross Simpson, Missouri; brother-in-law: Lannie Hoskins, Claypool, Ind.; sister-in-law: Lois Hendrickson, Hickory, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and former husband and friend: L.C. V. Helen Sizemore Pencil, 78, of Oxford, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Knolls of Oxford, where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was born October 8, 1934 in Clay County, Kentucky, one of two daughters to Boyd H. and Edna E. Edwards Sizemore. For more than twenty years, she managed the Phillips 27 Restaurant in Oxford, having owned and operated several other restaurants previously. She was a member of the Church of God in Oxford, Ohio. In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going to "the boat". Survivors include a son, Bill Snodderly and his wife Kathy of West College Corner, Indiana, a daughter, Anna Snodderly Herron of College Corner, Ohio, four grandchildren, Damon, Derick (Bridget), Dylan (Brandy), and Britni (Jason), five great-grandchildren, Devin, Nick, Dominic, Noah, and Khloe, a niece, Jill Cook and her husband Bill of Jacksonville, Florida, and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Gladola Fields Barton, 93, a life-long London, Ky., resident, passed away of natural causes at her home on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. She was born on Sept. 22, 1919, in Clay County, Ky., the daughter of the late Hubert and Mary Warner Fields. She was united in marriage to James Neil Barton, who preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Celestine Fields Ramsaur of Jackson, Tenn.; a brother, Dr. Hubert Fields Jr. of Louisville, Ky.; plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn her passing. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by three sisters, Miss Eula Fields, Mrs. Jewell Williams and Mrs. Gerene Stevens. Glad, as she was known to her family and many of her friends, was a member of First Christian Church. During her career, Mrs. Barton held several significant administrative positions. Along with her husband, they managed several investment rental properties around London and Jim managed the J. B. Dick Five and Dime. Funeral services were Aug. 20 in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Darrell Hathcock officiating. Burial followed in A.R. Dyche Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar Weaver; a son, Oscar Weaver Jr.; a grandson, Casey Salyers Jr.; two sisters, Delorie Dugger and Ethel Proffitt; and three brothers, Sammy Smith, Carl Smith and Henry Lee Smith. Tilford Jones, 85 of London, Ky., passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at his residence. Born June 4, 1928 in Clay County, Ky., he was the son of the late John R. and Nancy Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Malcome and James Jones, both of Indiana; two sisters, Maudie Pruitt and Nancy Whitehead, both of Oregon. Survivors include his wife, Jean (Robinson) Jones; two sons, Kenneth R. Jones and wife Kelly, and Edward L. James “Bill” W. Voils, Jr., grandfather of Robbie Sizemore and Heather Hicks of Manchester passed away September 6
James “Bill” W. Voils Jr., age 68 passed away Friday evening, September 6, 2013 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin (IN). Bill was born in Casey County, KY on March 22, 1945 to the late, James W. and Margie B. (Luster) Voils Sr. He married Linda Diane (Dorris) Voils on July 8, 1964 in Beech Grove. Diane survives after 49 devoted years of marriage. After receiving his HVAC Degree from IUPUI, he started to work as a Technician for Fieldhouse Refrigeration in Beech Grove from 1965 to 1980. In, 1980, Bill became the owner and operator of Voils Refrigeration in Brown County and retired in 1996. At the age of 17, Bill was baptized at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Zionsville. He enjoyed reading his Bible, playing on the church softball team and listening to country music. Bill loved spending time with his family and was known for being a storyteller and jokester. He also enjoyed the outdoors by working in his vegetable garden, fishing and squirrel hunting. He is survived by his two loving daughters: Theresa (Jason) Dawson and Christy (Rob) Pruitt both of Brown County. Bill will be remembered by his siblings: Diane (Marvin) Tetrick, Jerry (Jean) Voils & Larry (Ruth) Voils all of Brown County, Judy (Paul) Ballard and Janet (Marty) Dalton of Whiteland; seven grandchildren: Robbie Sizemore & Heather (Tim) Hicks both of Manchester, KY, Maeghn & Billy Pruitt, Jordan, Jalen & Emma Dawson all of Brown County; three great grandchildren: Miley & Jacob Hicks and Ander Sizemore all of Manchester, KY. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Jenny Sizemore; one son: James W. Voils III; one sister: Barbara Scott. The Rev. She was a supervisor for Brainard Industries and a member of the Circle of Faith Holiness Church, London. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Gracie Salyers; four brothers, Ruck Vernon Woods, Chad Salyers, Shafter Salyers and William Woods; three sisters, Ruby Woods, Zuby Woods and Peggy Fritz; and her in-laws, Lincoln and Sally Ann Sizemore. She is survived by a son, Michael Thomas Sizemore and wife Regina (whom she loved like her own) of London; siblings, Vicky Collett of Leslie County, Ky., Phyllis France of London, Elbert Woods of Manchester, Ky., and Frederick Woods of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Michael Joseph Sizemore and Alaina LaShae Sizemore. Ronnie Keith Bales, 68, of London,passed away September 13 at his residence. Born on Aug. 21, 1945 in Laurel County, Ky., he was the son of Beatrice Owens Bales of London and the late Ronald Bales. He was a self-employed dairy farmer and a member of the Locust Grove Christian Church. He served in the National Guard for seven years; was the fire chief at Keavy Volunteer Fire Department; former president and treasurer of Locust Grove Cemetery Committee; and president of Laurel County Firemen Alliance. He was survived by his mother; his wife, Gail Bales of London; his daughter, Cindy (Paul) Rader of Manchester; son, Michael Bales of Keavy; brothers, Harold (Carolyn) Bales and Richard (Laura) Bales, both of London; and his mother-in-law Joyce Willis of Keavy. She was a homemaker and a member of the Philadelphia Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Hinkle; sister, Audrey Stulz; brother, Ray Hall; son, Johnny Hinkle; and grandchild, Ardith Garland. Sylvester Smith, 78, departed from this life at Oaktree Hospital in Corbin, Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. He was born on Aug. 14, 1935 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Shelby and Dorothy Taylor Smith. He was a retired Massey Ferguson employee and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hinkle Smith, and seven brothers and sisters. He was survived by one daughter, Sherry Smith of Ft. Mrs. Orilene Singleton age 72 of Ellijay, GA died Wednesday October 9, 2013. Mrs. Singleton was born August 21, 1941 in Oneida, KY to the late Geofery and Marie Stewart Davis. She worked in the medical field as a nurse's aid and a member of the Calvary Way Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors Include: Husband: Jack Singleton, of the home; Son: Carlo Arnett, Cincinnati, OH; Daughters: Carlene Morgan, Somerset, KY, Darlene Wilson, Sexton Creek, KY; Brothers: H.B.
