Boil be gone!
A boil is a bacterial infection of a sweat gland or hair follicle, caused by a pore or follicle being blocked by dead skin cells and other debris. The pus and inflammation is due to the resultant death of white blood cells. However, recurrent boils are possibly caused by a skin infection due to gastrointestinal bacteria entering the bloodstream. They can also be caused by too much sugar in the diet.
By bringing blood to the area, you can diminish the bacteria. For a boil that pops up suddenly and is not recurrent, immerse a washcloth in water as hot as you can tolerate without burning. Wring the washcloth out and place on the boil for 20 minutes twice a day.
After the one or two days, alternate 10 minutes of the hot washcloth with 10 minutes of a washcloth soaked in ice-cold water. Repeat this 3 times twice daily. This will help to drain the boil.
