Sweaty Palms? Sweaty palms is a condition referred to as palmar hyperhidrosis. This medical condition is caused by hyperactive sympathetic nervous activity over sweat glands of the hands. Medical treatment typically consists of prescription medication, which only reduces sweating temporarily, and is not normally effective in severe cases of this condition. The only effective treatment for patients with server palmar hyperhidrosis is a surgical procedure called thoracoscopic sympathectomy. This procedure can now be performed safely as an outpatient, same day basis. How to Prevent Sweaty Palms? Try clapping cornstarch or talcum powder between your palms. Medicated powders are available to soak up moisture, too. Use an unscented, aluminum salt-based antiperspirant, preferably a product made for palms and feet. Wipe your palms often on tissues or a hand towel. Apply aluminum chloride paint to the area for persistent clamminess.
