ALC Men’s Tennis Inks Clay County Star
Alice Lloyd College has confirmed the signing of Clay County tennis standout Mack Douglas Asher to a letter of intent. The signing took place on the campus of Clay County High School in Manchester. ALC is pleased to announce that it will further expand its sports offerings, and Men’s Tennis will join the KIAC beginning in fall 2012. Signing Asher is definitely a step in the right direction toward building a competitive program quickly. Asher has played tennis at Clay County for five seasons and is highly anticipating embarking on his college career. “I am thankful and blessed for an amazing family that has supported me through everything,” Asher said. “I am excited to embark on this new turning point in my life, and I am really looking forward to this opportunity to attend Alice Lloyd College and play tennis. I owe everything to God.” Asher is the son of Joe and Pam Asher of Oneida, Kentucky and the grandson of Revena South Allen and the late James Allen. He is the nephew of Michael and Sandy Allen, Jaylena and Rodney Jones, Mary Lu and Darryl Delk, and Tommy and Linda South.

Lady Eagles Tennis Opens Season Alice Lloyd College Press Release
The Alice Lloyd College Women’s Tennis team kicked off its season last Saturday with meets against Carlow University (PA) and Berea College. The matches were played at the Knott County tennis facility. ALC dropped the opening match against Carlow 6-3, but the girls were very competitive. Freshmen Serena Nickell and Crilda Brown got things off to a good start with a win playing No. 3 doubles. Unfortunately, Brown turned an ankle during the match. Though able to finish, she was unable to continue for the rest of the day, leaving the team a player short. Her doubles partner, Nickell, also won her singles match in a third set tie break, playing at No. 5. Senior Lydia Harris, playing at No. 1 singles, won in a third set tie break to account for the other win. Being a player short put the team at a significant disadvantage against a much improved Berea College team, losing 8-1. The one win was provided by Serena Nickell playing at No. 5 singles. Senior Rebekah Bevins, playing at No.2 singles, narrowly missed adding a second victory, coming up short in a very close third set tie break. The Lady Eagles’ tennis season continues this weekend as the team travels to Brescia University to play the host team, as well as IU East.

Lady Eagles Fight Tough in KIAC Tournament Alice Lloyd College Press Release
The Alice Lloyd College Women’s Tennis team traveled to Richmond, IN last week to participate in the KIAC Tennis Tournament on Friday. Due to inclement weather, play was moved to an indoor facility in Dayton, OH, where the Eagles met Carlow University out of Pittsburg, PA. Unfortunately, the team fell behind 0-3, dropping the three doubles matches despite holding late leads in two of them. This proved to be too deep of a hole to dig out of as the team went on to drop three of the six singles matches. The girls went down fighting, though, as senior Lydia Harris, playing at No. 1 singles, won her match 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Crilda Brown, playing at No. 5 singles also won, dispatching her opponent 6-2, 6-0, and freshman Kylie Clay was leading 6-4, 2-2 when play was suspended. Also competing for the Eagles were sophomore Amanda Ashworth and freshmen Courtney Puckett, Serena Nickell, and Noel Banks.
