Jacob Hyde guest of UK at UK/UofL football game
Clay County lineman Jacob Hyde got a mention at kentuckywildcats.us after he visited UK last weekend for the Kentucky-Louisville game and came away impressed despite the poor performance by the Cats. Hyde said “I really liked the atmosphere in Commonwealth Stadium that the Big Blue Nation had to offer.” Hyde will make a return trip to Lexington later on in the year, but he doesn’t know which date yet. He is getting interest from schools like Auburn, Mississippi State, Louisville, and Nebraska, but UK is his only offer so far. www.kentuckywildcats.us/jacob-hyde-2013-dt-update/

According to an article in The Times-Tribune by Sports Editor Les Dixon the Corbin Redhound golf team overcame some torrential rainfall to capture their fourth straight 10th Region golf championship — adding icing to the cake, Cody Ellis captured the individual 10th Region championship by surviving a playoff against teammate Alex Davis and 2010 champion Tyler McDaniel from Clay County. Bell County students plan to "Let Us Pray"
According to a story on WYMT News many people in Bell County plan to wear "Let Us Pray" shirts at Bell County High School's first home football game since the district was forced to do away with the pre-game prayer.
In August the district received a complaint from out of state Anti-Christian zealots calling themselves "Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Supporters of the prayer plan to wear the shirts at Friday night's game and say the Lord's Prayer aloud during the moment of silence.

Tigers need to win out in district to avoid playoff trip to Lexington Catholic
The Clay County Tigers are looking at making a trip to Boyle County or Lexington Catholic in the playoffs after dropping a 52-8 district game at Knox Central last night. The Tigers are in Class 4A District six and will play a team from District five in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers will need to sweep their two remaining district games at Russell County and Rockcastle County to avoid going on the road. Lexington Catholic looks like a lock to win district five after slipping by Boyle County last night. Should Catholic and Boyle win out as expected in district play, if the Tigers lose one and win one district game they would be traveling to Boyle. If they fail to win a district game that means a trip to Lexington. With only four teams in district six the Tigers will make the playoffs. Check out the Mike Fields blog on the Boyle, Catholic game at: fieldsnotes.bloginky.com/2011/09/30/boyle-county-vs-lexington-catholic-football

ESPN no longer "Ready for Some Football"
I have been seeing all the talk about ESPN and Hank Williams, Jr. parting way over a remark on Fox News about a golf game between President Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner. All of the headlines read "Hank Williams Jr. Compares Obama Playing Golf With John Boehner To “Hitler Playing Golf With Netanyahu” so I decided to watch the video myself. www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/10/06/hank-williams-jr-fired-by-espn-or-did-quitDuring the video an obviously buzzed Hank critized the entire Republican field except for Herman Cain. He then critized John Boehner for playing golf with the President. Maybe a more correct headline would have been "Hank Williams Jr. Compares John Boehner Playing Golf With Obama To “Hitler Playing Golf With Netanyahu”. So I went to ESPN.com and checked out what other music the ABC owned sports channel has been playing. sports.espn.go.com/espn/thelife/music/news/story?id=5602649Seems the first person listed was Kanye West. Yes, the person that used a fund raiser for the victims of Hurrican Katrina to say, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”. When President Bush wrote a book about his time in office he said the Kanye West's criticism was "The worst moment of my presidency" The moral of this story: "Don't do TV unless you are sober" Guess Jr. is a chip off the ole block.....

Could an open enrollment policy help build a team?
I have often wondered how a 4A school like Fort Thomas Highlands can always seem to field larger football teams than most 6A schools and have several players whose parents have ties with the Cincinnati area pro and college sports programs. May have found the answer in a newspaper article..... nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20110929/NEWS0103/309280029/It-pays-Fort-Thomas-good-schoolsThe Fort Thomas Independent Schools have 193 students who live outside the district. Their parents pay tuition ranging from $1,050 to $4,600 annually. This means they don't recruit players, but players can recruit them and pay their way onto the team. The district has reciprocal agreements with some other districts so that if a student wants to attend an out-of-district school, the state money allocated for that student will be transferred to the out-of-district school he or she is attending. That helps lower the tuition cost. If there is no agreement with the district the student lives in, tuition will be higher. Several districts in Northern Kentucky have reciprocal agreements, but few charge as much tuition as Fort Thomas and attract a large number of students. One of the exceptions is Beechwood Independent Schools in Fort Mitchell, a Class 1A football power that always seems to be much bigger and better than other teams in their class. nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20110929/NEWS0103/309280029/It-pays-Fort-Thomas-good-schools

Former CCMS Raider to replace Zeke Pike at Dixie Heights
Former CCMS Raider Jordan Fox will fill some big shoes at defending 9th Region basketball champion Dixie Heights this basketball season. According to Mike Fields of the Herald Leader Zeke Pike will not play basketball this year so he can graduate early and enroll at Auburn where the 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior quarterback commited to play football. The 6-2 Fox played the last two seasons at Jackson County. Pike averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds for Dixie Heights’ basketball team last season. Pike missed the first and last games of the football season for disciplinary reasons. The Class 6A Colonels struggled to a 3-8 record. Even without Pike, Dixie Heights still figures to be the 9th Region favorite in basketball. fieldsnotes.bloginky.com/2011/11/13/zeke-pike-to-graduate-early-wont-play-hoops

I want turn back the clock to 1992. More specific, let's go back to March 28th, 1992. It was a Saturday and I was a 10 year basketball loving kid. This was a very special Saturday indeed.
