Pastors Must Lead This Fight by Don Pinson
It was 1775. On April 19th the British army, which had been our army up until that time, attacked a group of farmers standing on Lexington Green to defend their homes. That group of some seventy-five farmers were members of the local church at Lexington. Their Pastor, Jonas Clark, had been preparing them for this moment by his preaching over the last twenty years. He had taught them the Biblical principles that support self-defense from an aggressive enemy. Captain Jonas Parker, head Deacon and leader of the group on the Green, called out to his men, “Steady men, steady; don’t fire unless fired upon. But if they want a war, let it begin here.” The British did fire, and eight Americans died. The rest of the Americans then returned the fire, and then they scattered to the woods to make their way to Concord, where they would join with a much larger force of Americans. At Concord they would repulse the British attack and win the day. The impossible had occurred: An army of farmers had defeated the British army of professional soldiers, the greatest army on earth in that day. Why? They set us a wonderful example of Biblical wisdom being applied to civil government, when they wrote what has been called the ‘first constitution of America’. We now call it the Mayflower Compact. There’s never been a darker day in America’s history. We’re murdering more than 5,000 unborn children a day by abortion. And we can’t even get major network coverage on the trial of a so-called doctor who murdered maybe hundreds of children outside the womb immediately after they were born. Our government demands that 15 year-old girls have the right to a so-called “morning after” pill which will kill the baby just conceived in her womb. Sex-slave traffic has been increasing steadily for many years in our land. And a new strain of gonorrhea has just been discovered which is feared to be worse than aids. Picture Reformation by Don Pinson
I often hear people talking about what we need to do to return our nation to “the way it ought to be.” But I wonder how many of them have a clear picture of exactly what is, “what it ought to be.” What would Biblical Reformation in America look like? Actually, the years just before the American Revolution can give us a good starting point. The honest student of history finds in those years an evidence of a powerful move of God. That is what birthed America. This is all that can change her now. It is to that way of thinking we must return if America is to restore the liberty to get the Gospel to the next generation. Can America Change? by Don Pinson
Is there any hope that America can be turned back to be a nation that honors the God who created her? The Bible says, “Yes!” Now, it doesn’t say it just like that. But it says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
This promise is unchanged. So America, or any nation, can change. If we will do what this verse says, in a home, a church, a local community, or a nation, God will do what He promises to do, which is: “…forgive their sin, and…heal their land.” So where do we start? Do Gospel And Government Mix? by Don Pinson
Recently a young friend of mine sent me an article he was disturbed about. A man who, no doubt, is a sincere believer, was saying Christians should not be involved in government because, as he said, “God’s kingdom isn’t here on earth”. He went on to put forth the idea that our work as Christians is to share the Gospel with the lost, not to lobby in government. This is a common mistake I hear believers make. They divide life into the “spiritual” and the “secular” parts. In their thinking, neither is supposed to affect the other... Religious Acts By Our Government by Don Pinson
Today we hear much about what is called the “separation of church and state”. By that phrase is meant that the Bible, nor Christian ideas, have any right to influence government. Groups such as the ACLU, who promote this idea, say that the First Amendment to the Constitution forbids Biblical ideas from influencing government. But an honest study of the men who wrote the First Amendment will reveal just the opposite. America’s Founders came from a long line of people who looked to God as the Source and Strength of their lives. Prayer to them was as natural as breathing, and an absolute necessity in times of national crisis. When the first major step toward war occurred, which was the blockading of Boston harbor, the first Continental Congress was then in session. This gathering marked the first time the thirteen colonies had come together to discuss how to deal with the King of England’s tyranny over the American colonies. Their very first act was to invite a minister to start their sessions with prayer and the reading of the Bible.... Our Founding Fathers’ Christian Worldview by Don Pinson
Sometime back, there was a letter to the editor of one of our newspapers in this region, which sadly expressed the lack of understanding of some people in our land. This man began by saying, “Our state is under the spell of a myth, the myth of a Christian nation.” He goes on to assert that most of our leading Founding Fathers were deists. In particular he names Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington. He then goes on to define deism: “Deism is a way of looking at the world and believing there’s a god who created it, but then left things alone (i.e., no miracles, no son of god, no divine intervention).” He then quotes Ben Franklin with a statement he is supposed to have made in 1728: Quote, “…the infinite Father… requires no worship or praise from us.” I fear this man represents some in America who simply misrepresent the facts about our Founders, either by ignorance or design. Why don’t we do a novel thing? Let’s let the Founders speak for themselves! Wouldn’t that be a different approach to education? Interposition – The Basis of American Independence by Don Pinson
America’s Founders spoke without a stutter as to why they had the right to establish a new government among themselves. The Declaration of Independence stated: “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…”

Who’s The Judge? by Don Pinson
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to defend Marriage; thus opening the door for full-blown sexual disorder, and the destruction of children’s minds by the insecurity in homes which will result. In saying the Defense of Marriage Act was wrong, they said that marriage, God’s plan for rearing healthy children, was wrong. In this ruling they disagreed with the Biblical definition of marriage. God said, when he created marriage, that, “And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” Genesis 2:22
Thus, God identified marriage as being between a man and a woman. Noah Webster, in his original American Dictionary based his definition of marriage on God’s record in history. He defined marriage as:
“The act of uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life. Marriage was instituted by God Himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of the sexes, for promoting domestic felicity and for securing the maintenance and education of children.”
In refusing to protect God’s definition of marriage, the judges on the Supreme Court who voted against it, have set themselves above God, declaring themselves wiser than God and His Word. They have usurped the position of God as being the Judge of all. This is dangerous for them—and us!
Consider what a dictatorial act this was.
The Court ruled on this marriage case, even though the one who brought the case was satisfied already by the lower court rulings. Likewise, the Justice Department chose not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act. Yet, the Court still wanted to state their opinion on the issue of marriage. In other words, thought there was no case, they decided to speak about this issue. Thus, they stole a power nowhere granted them in the Constitution. This is a gross abuse of power. It is the exercise of raw power in the political realm. This is the way dictators rule!

The Scottish Covenant: The Root of Our Liberty by Don Pinson
Having a man in the White House and a Supreme Court which ignore our Constitution and live by their own law; and a Congress that doesn’t have the courage to impeach them, we Americans must relearn the principle of liberty under law, or we won’t be able to restore either Law or Liberty! While the Pilgrims and Puritans were establishing themselves in New England, a giant step toward human liberty was occurring in Scotland. In 1638 the King of England was trying to force Roman Catholicism on the Scots. For years the Scots had been more and more throwing off this yoke, and they were not about to submit to what they believed were satanic rituals that would plunge them back into the slavery of the “dark ages.” Thus, they came together in a covenant (which means the meeting of minds) vowing to fight to the death to refuse Catholic tyranny in their churches and civil government. Over 3200 people signed the original document—many signing it in their own blood—saying we will die rather than live as slaves to a government that won’t submit to the moral law of God. Common Men Create a Republic by Don Pinson
The old freighter had just dropped anchor. She bobbed up and down in the November waves just inside Cape Cod. She was many miles off her course to the north. This potentially spelled trouble for the Pilgrims on board this ship, called the Mayflower. They had a few people among their number who were not covenant members of their church. Some of these people were rebels who didn’t want to submit to the authority of God, much less the authority of man. And with no government authority here in this place, they were threatening to live anyway they wanted, once they were on shore. The Pilgrims knew they could not live without civil government because government was designed by God to control that rebellious nature in man; indeed, that was the only purpose for civil government to exist! Thus, though they were common people, and had no lawyers among them, they gathered all the men together and wrote a document establishing their own civil government. They created a republic: That is, a government where law is the highest authority. That law was based in the moral law of the Bible and had to be approved by those who would live under it. They were able to form their own civil government because their Pastor, John Robinson, had taught them from the Bible how to do it. The Bible had many references to civil government; both the structure it was to take, and the Spirit in which it was to operate.... The Origin of America’s Biblical Economy by Don Pinson
You don’t have to be an expert in economy to recognize that what this national government is doing is not only causing our economy to sink lower and lower; it is moving it toward total collapse: And it would seem as if collapse is the goal of this administration. Why would they promote socialism when it’s already been tried in America—and failed!! For the first 2 1/2 years the Pilgrims were here, they tried to live by a socialistic economic system. They nearly starved to death. Recognizing the seriousness of their situation, their Governor, William Bradford, called for a meeting of the leaders of the colony. They had long known their problem was this socialistic system they were laboring under. The businessmen who had financed their trip had insisted they live by a common storehouse. In other words, they were to put all their produce into one storehouse, no matter which family had raised that produce. Then, they were to take out as little as they could get by with for their own needs, and send the rest of it back to England to their financiers as payment for their debt. The Pilgrims knew this would not work, but the businessmen insisted this is how they must do it. The Foundation of Our Founders by Don Pinson
By the late 1600s the fervency of the church in America had died down to just embers compared to their Pilgrim forefathers. And in 1734 the Spirit of God touched down in Northampton, Massachusetts in such a notable way it would change the course of this nation, and set the tone for the birthing of the American Republic. The Book Speaks With Finality by Don Pinson
If you watch TV talk shows (which I hope you do very little of!), you hear man’s opinions batted back and forth in an endless stream of words that is monotonous. It reveals the basis of all world-thought. It is simply: “What do I say—What do you say?” There is no higher standard than our own opinion. What tragedy this sets us up for. With man’s selfish nature we received in the Garden of Eden for our rebellion against God, the ultimate manifestation of expressing our own opinions with no outside standard is always strife between individuals, families, and nations. With our drift away from Biblical standards, is it any wonder there is such an increase in assault and murder crimes—and in war itself? John Adams, signer of the Declaration of Independence, identified the fruit of man’s opinions in government when he stated, “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.

Only The Bible Brings Discernment by Don Pinson
Even the secular media was shocked by Miley Cyrus’ performance at the MTV Music Awards ceremony. Her sexually implied movements and nudity on stage shocked even some of the media who is used to reporting on this kind of thing. I remember when she first appeared on the scene as a Disney role model. I was shocked by how many Christian parents wanted their little girls to be like her. Parents: What do you now think of “Hannah Montana”? The question I urge you to consider is: How could you have been so deceived about this girl? Why couldn’t you discern where she was headed and what she would become? May God grant Miley Cyrus repentance. But may God EVEN MORE grant those of us in the church repentance! May He reveal to us that we are so much in the world that we can’t identify the “world” system of evil that deceives us and is destroying our children!! How is it that America’s early generations had morals that were so much better than ours now? Any honest student of history knows this is true. Even in my lifetime I remember when folks didn’t lock their doors at night because they knew their neighbors weren’t going to harm them or their stuff in any way. There was a simple reason for it. Most people read and believed the Bible and what it taught about how you should treat your neighbor. America became the most prosperous nation on earth because most people in our early history kept their word. That’s what makes an economy work. Integrity in the marketplace produces prosperity. Where did we get that integrity? We got it from reading the Bible and obeying its teachings; beginning with receiving Jesus Christ as the rightful Ruler of these lives that we were living. All Rests on the New Birth by Don Pinson
Can America be rebuilt? Can our liberty be regained? Can the growing darkness in America’s educational system, economic system, and governmental system be turned again to the light? Yes, it can; but not by going on in our deception; thinking that we know what’s best for us. The Bible says, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools…” (Romans 1:22)
Our problem is that we think in the wrong way. We think, as mankind, that what is in our mind is right. That’s where we’re wrong. The Bible teaches that only an “enlightened mind” (Ephesians 1:18) can know the truth. And our mind is only enlightened as the Holy Spirit of God shines light on any given situation. This “enlightening” can only happen when God brings us to Himself by the New Birth. Paul, the Apostle, warned us that all mankind (because of our rebellion against God in the Garden of Eden) now lives with the understanding being darkened. He wrote: “Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart…” (Ephesians 4:18)
It makes no difference if we’re Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Islamic, a Hindu or a satanist, or have no religion at all; if we’ve never surrendered this life to Jesus Christ, admitting it is rightfully His because He created it, we have a darkened mind. So what is the New Birth? How do we enter into the Light? The New Birth is the birthing of our spirit into the life of God. God literally brings His life into our spirit within when we receive Jesus Christ as Master and Deliverer. He brings His understanding—His light into us—and from that moment we begin to learn to think with God. The more we read the Bible with a surrendered heart, the more we see as God sees. Covenant: The Foundation of the Declaration by Don Pinson
Why can’t we fix the immigration problem in America? Why can’t we teach the Bible in our schools any more? Why do we keep loosing jobs to foreign countries? Believe it or not, these great issues in America do all root in the same problem. That problem is: We no longer understand the Biblical concept of covenant. The word covenant, as defined in America’s first dictionary, means “the meeting of minds.” Covenant means that two or more people think enough alike to be able to enter into a binding agreement to walk together to accomplish a certain task. Admittedly, this is not an easy thing to do. Because of our sin in the Garden of Eden we think our own thoughts and generally do not want anyone else to challenge that thinking. The Bible shows the ultimate result of our refusal to submit to the life of God in the beginning of history is, that: “…everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)
Since the root of sin in each of us insists on its own way, we cannot walk in covenant together for very long. Lost mankind always ends up fighting because of disagreeing over what we should be doing, and how we should be doing it. This is why global government can never work! When the Pilgrims came here in 1620, they had been walking in a church covenant for fifteen years. They had learned the joy of “thinking with God.” That is, being willing to let Him change one’s mind so that we thought as He thinks about life and living. Once two individuals started on the journey with God of learning to think as He thinks, then they had a basis for thinking enough alike to walk together in this life. While this can only be accomplished by meeting daily with God in His Word, the Bible, the Pilgrims were diligent to do this. Their thinking was gradually changed to agree with God as they discovered and embraced His way of thinking revealed in the Bible. The more they thought with God, the easier it was to think alike with each other. While walking together in a church covenant required a much greater commitment than walking together in a civil covenant, the principle was the same. Each citizen had to agree concerning the purpose of civil government; and how the law should be written and administered. This meant that all were agreeing that God was our Creator and the giver of civil government; and as such, we were accountable to the civil law because it was His method of maintaining order in a society. Those who attached their names to that document were saying, “I may not be a Christian; but I do believe God created us all, and I’m willing to live by civil law based on the Bible. Covenant or International Dictatorship? by Don Pinson
Mr. Obama is trying to convince the U.S. Congress to agree with him in his desire to attack Syria. His reason is that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against the rebels who are trying to overthrow it. He says, in so doing, they “stepped across the red line.” And how does he justify that the United States should enter this fray in Syria? He thinks Syria has violated “international law”. So what’s that mean? It means he thinks agreements among nations are more important than the agreements between our own states to form this nation’s government. Simply put: International law is more important to him than our law summed up in our Constitution. His effort is part of the plan to establish a “one-world” government. To establish a global government has always been the dream of mankind since we lost “paradise” in the Garden of Eden because of our sin. Nimrod, a man revealed in Genesis, Chapter 10, tried to establish a kingdom called “Babel”, which would rule the earth and bring all men together again. But our selfishness has constantly divided us. The Bible tells us mankind is basically selfish. It says, “For by one man sin entered into the world and death through sin; and so death passed on all men because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12)
Mr. Obama and others in the “globalism” school of thought, deny that man is basically selfish, thus believing satan’s lie that man could live together in a one-world government. While this sounds good, because you could have a unified police force which would keep down any harmful intentions resulting from “misunderstandings” between individuals or countries, the reality is it can’t work: Because it’s based on the lie that man is not selfish—only mistaken. “Politically Correct” Education, they think, will fix most things; the police force will take care of the rest (by the way, Hitler tried this!). The problem is these idealists overlook the obvious: Man is born with a selfish root inside him. Those who grow up to be rulers have this selfishness the same as those who grow up to be ruled. So why does a selfish ruler have the right to punish another selfish ruler who’s inside his own country? The answer is simple: He doesn’t!!! The Root Is Education by Don Pinson
All thinking people agree that education is the key to what the next generation becomes. What a child learns before he is six years old is probably going to determine his methods of doing things for the rest of his life. It is simply impossible to over-estimate the value of teaching children what is right. Ben Franklin said of those who taught children, “I think…that talents for the education of youth are the gift of God; and that he on whom they are bestowed, whenever a way is opened for the use of them, is as strongly called as if he heard a voice from heaven.”
Every reasonable person would agree with Mr. Franklin. While we all agree that education is extremely important; we don’t all agree on what type of education is best to prepare children to fulfill the role for which they were created. This is where the ‘water hits the wheel’, so to speak. America became the greatest nation in world history, providing more liberty for the greatest number of people, as a result of her early education system. On the other hand, through the education system Hitler put into place early in his administration, Nazi Germany prepared young people to kill millions upon millions of innocent people. The type of education system a nation has makes all the difference! What type system made America the greatest nation in all of history? What way of thinking created more liberty and prosperity for the greater number of people than any other nation had known? Some honest historical research will quickly answer that question; provided you read history books written before 1900. After that date most histories and analysis of our government are written from a ‘man-centered’ viewpoint. Consequently, the view of our earlier forefathers – the view that birthed and developed America – is either ignored, or scoffed at as being ‘non-intellectual’. And yet, the honest student of history cannot ignore the magnanimous accomplishments of our pioneers in this nation. In reality, it is only the ‘pseudo-intellectuals’ who refuse to let those founders speak for themselves. Noah Webster was the Founder of America’s original education method. He wrote our first Dictionary. He knew 26 languages. It is said he could quote the entire Bible, chapter and verse! He was certainly one of the greatest intellectual giants America ever produced. The Deeper Reason for the War on Coal by Don Pinson
James River Coal Company recently laid off 525 employees of mines in 5 counties in East Kentucky. Thus, the Obama administration’s war on coal continues. Since summer, 2011, Kentucky has lost over 6000 coal jobs to EPA’s ever-growing regulations designed to shut down the coal industry. One of Mr. Obama’s advisors, Daniel Schrag, said earlier this year that “the one thing the president really needs to do now is to begin the process of shutting down the conventional coal plants…a war on coal is exactly what’s needed.” (The Washington Times, 9/17/13) So what’s the real reason for a war on coal? The war on coal is part of a much larger plan, the roots of which go all the way back to the mid-1800s. satan has always had people he could motivate to stop liberty. We call them dictators. They are men or women who want their will to control everyone else. In order to establish themselves, they must remove opinions that disagree with them. This translates into the removal of the Gospel of Jesus Christ from public, because Jesus teaches us to “renew our mind” to think with Him (Romans 12:1-2). When a citizen thinks with God according to the Bible, a dictator quickly gets exposed to be the selfish individual he is. Thus, people who are Biblical thinkers inspire the removal of dictators so a fairer, more Biblical government can be established. Dictators also want to control the flow of business in a nation to make sure the wealth flows to them. The Bible analyses them when it says, “For the love of money is the root of all evil…” (1st Timothy 6:10)
They mistakenly believe they can protect themselves from all harm if they just have enough money. Thus, they desire to control an economy instead of letting people trade freely without government interference. What’s ‘Essential’ in Government? by Don Pinson
At midnight on September 30th, our national government went into an “essential services” mode. Only what has been determined by the Congress to be the very most important works are now being funded. All of this has come about because the majority of the House of Representatives, as the majority of the American citizens, do not want Mr. Obama’s health plan funded. This has far-reaching affects. By law, because no agreement could be reached between the House and the Senate, the national government cuts back the money it’s spending to pay only for “essential services”. This stops paying some 800,000 salaries. Let’s do a new thing; let’s define this term, essential. Noah Webster defined “essential” as meaning: “Necessary to the…existence of a thing.” So “essential services” would be those services performed by government which are only absolutely necessary to the existence of government. So what services are those? To determine that, we first must know what is the purpose of government. Some Interposition at Work by Don Pinson
California, Virginia, and Alaska have passed laws refusing to imprison people just because they disagree with a current government. You perhaps are thinking, “Could our government imprison people for that?” It most certainly could! Not by Constitutional rights; but by a national law called The National Emergencies Act passed in 2012 by the Congress, broad powers would be given to a president if he deemed that opposition to law had reached a stage that the courts couldn’t handle. This could be invoked on people like Christians who would rise up and say we are not going to be part of a national health-care plan which forces our dollars to fund abortion. Other states are considering similar legislation. South Carolina’s Senate is considering a law which would make more difficult the implementation of “Obamacare” in that state. God’s First Step Towards Fixing Us by Don Pinson
When I was ten years old, three ladies in the community where I grew up in Pike County, Kentucky, came faithfully to our school each week to teach us the Bible. They taught us who God was, who we were, and what His plan was for our lives. One of the things they taught us was to memorize the Ten Commandments. Then they told us God wanted us to obey those Commandments. So I decided I would obey the Ten Commandments. I committed myself to “Have no other gods” before God, my Creator. I committed to not steal or lie or desire what belonged to somebody else. I committed to always obey my parents. Was I in for an awakening! I found out that, try as I might, sooner or later, I would break one of those Ten Commands. And you see, our Bible teachers knew that’s exactly what would happen: Because that’s the very reason God gave those Commands. Perhaps you’re thinking: “Don, I don’t understand. Why would God give us a command that we couldn’t keep?” He does so because He’s wiser than we are. You see, He knows that when we refused to let His life indwell us in the Garden of Eden, we received instead “darkness” to indwell us. That is; we lost our understanding of why we were alive. From then on, satan planted different ideas in our mind about who God was and why we were alive. As we believed his lies, we plunged into darkness about the reason for our existence. Selfishness replaced purpose. This would cause all of the hurt we, as mankind, would ever experience. Hope from Past Revivals by Don Pinson
The Wesleyan Revival saved England in the 1730s because it restored Biblical morality; without which no nation can exist very long. Even as secular an historian as Lecky admitted the revival under the Wesleys’ leadership saved England from destruction. We, in America, are desperate for the same kind of revival! And God has done it in the past in some of our darkest hours—because He found His people repentant! In the year 1800, God touched down in the frontier region known as Logan County, Kentucky (what is near present day Bowling Green). It started with a circuit-riding Presbyterian preacher by the name of James McGready. McGready was a powerful preacher who pastored three small churches in that region. But his power was not first because of his preaching. It was because he and his congregation had a covenant with God and each other to pray for revival in their sin-soaked community. They agreed to pray every Saturday night and Sunday morning, and to fast and pray every third Saturday. They were praying for God to revive them, His church, first of all; then to awaken the lost people around them—which outnumbered the Christians and did more harm than the Christians could do good! God began to answer their prayers within a year of praying according to their covenant. In the summer of 1799 two Methodist brothers by the name of McKee preached in the Cumberland Valleys of the region and large crowds attended their meetings and many people turned to Christ. As for Logan County, in June that year a communion service at two of McGready’s churches saw hardened sinners weeping in the meetings. A year later, in June of 1800 the “dam” broke as God came into their midst in a powerful way. Never have we seen a time in America that was so morally debased. The homosexual agenda is bent on erasing every vestige of Christianity from our culture. Their socialist ideas permeate the media and the tax-supported education institutions throughout the land. Is there any hope of a return to moral sanity? Yes, there is! But it can only come in a heaven-sent, Christ-honoring, revival in our personal, family, church, and national lives. God’s promise is plain: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
If we, who are Christian, will “turn” —not talk— God will send revival. And revival always restores Biblical morality! God has done this in our past in America; He wants to do it again! November is the month of the Thanksgiving Day holiday in America. But why do we have Thanksgiving? We know the Pilgrims held the first Thanksgiving Day in 1621, which was the first harvest time they had here. They wanted to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His protection and provision in this new world they had entered. They indeed, wanted it to be a new world! They came here to start a new culture based on the Word of God; and that’s exactly what they did! One of the greatest descriptions of the Pilgrims I’ve ever read was written by Billy Graham in the November, 2002 issue of Decision magazine.
