South Carolina Connecting With Others Missionary MomentLOUANNE STEWART gave her life to Jesus at age 8 and has been faithful to her call to serve Him through missions work. Her current position at the Florence Baptist Association (FBA) in Florence, S.C., allows her to connect people in the community who have needs to the churches in the association that can meet those needs. She has active ministries in the public school system and community. FBA has two new partnerships, one in Akron, Ohio, and the other in New Brunswick, Canada. Pray for these partnerships, for the new ministry to the homeless, and that God will continue to bless Louanne and her growing family. Being faithful and committed to giving through the Cooperative Program allows missionaries to extend their ministries. The preceding "Missionary Moment" was made possible by gifts to the Southern Baptist Association Cooperative Program, which is supported by several Clay County churches who are members of the Booneville Baptist Association which consists of 25 churches in Clay and Owsley counties which are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Kentucky Baptist Convention. Central Asia Clean Spring Water Missionary MomentA Southern Baptist family living in Central Asia works to improve people’s physical lives by piping clean spring water into communities and teaching about better health practices. But opportunities to share their faith are few and far between. In their small town, all the local people are Muslim, and everyone knows each other’s business. Despite the difficulty, the family works to build close relationships with their national partners and shows Christ’s love through their life and ministry. Cooperative Program gifts make it possible not only to provide clean water to the people of Central Asia, but also to offer them the eternal Living Water found in Christ. Virginia Changed Lives Make a Difference Missionary MomentChurch planter SERGIO GUARDIA was born in Virginia, but raised by his single mother in Bolivia. His father shared the Gospel with him as a teenager and, because of the change he saw in his father, he readily accepted the message. After serving as missionaries in Bolivia for just more than a year, he and his wife came to Lynchburg, Va., to attend Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He now pastors at Nuevo Amanecer, which is the Hispanic campus for Thomas Road Baptist Church, and has helped to plant another such campus in nearby Danville. The Cooperative Program enables us to partner with more than 46,000 churches to make Christ known. Pray that the largely Latin American congregation in these churches will continue to grow. Madagascar Hearing The Call Missionary MomentWarren Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga., chose to embrace the Deaf Malagasy of Madagascar, an unengaged, unreached people group. Located off Africa’s eastern coast, the island nation is home to roughly 110,000 Deaf, less than 1 percent of whom are Christian. Missionaries FRANK AND SHERI MORAN are intimate with the Deaf Malagasy society and Malagasy Sign language, and lead the IMB’s Deaf work in Madagascar. The Morans prepared the way and enlisted Phillip Easterling, a Deaf pastor, to help Warren Baptist Church navigate the Deaf world and its cultural nuances. Your Cooperative Program gifts make it possible for Deaf missionaries to work alongside short-term volunteers. Wyoming Equipping Leaders Missionary MomentFRED CREASON, a former MK in Ethiopia and PK in Georgia, knew at an early age that God’s call on his life was as a preacher. He began practicing that call at age 17. In 1992, that call led him to Wyoming. Today he is the director of the Wyoming Southern Baptist Center for Leadership Development, which is a diploma-granting school sponsored by Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Because of your generous contributions through the Cooperative Program, numerous pastors and church planters have been trained to produce healthy, thriving churches and church plants. Pray that God will continue to so equip the pastors and planters that Wyoming so desperately needs. Tanzania Medical Mission Endeavor Missionary MomentDR. LARRY and SALLY PEPPER are Southern Baptist missionaries to Tanzania. Before serving as a medical doctor through the International Mission Board, Larry was a flight surgeon for NASA, supporting the space shuttle program from 1988-95. Larry says friends and colleagues thought he was crazy when he left NASA for the mission field. But the Peppers don’t agree. Since being appointed 17 years ago, they have worked in Uganda, Lesotho and Tanzania, where Larry now works in Kigoma Baptist Hospital. The Peppers share the Gospel with the Ha people and work to revive the evangelistic nature of the hospital. Cooperative Program gifts support practical — and life-changing — ministries such as medical missions. Mexico Plant Churches Passionately Missionary MomentAfter more than 13 years of hard work in greater Mexico City — the largest urban center on the planet, by many estimates — missionaries WILLIAM and ORPHA ORTEGA are seeing the church-planting vision they share with Mexican Baptist churches and pastors succeed. Much of the awakening is the movement of the Holy Spirit. Churches and pastors also are open to trying new things, such as three “subway churches” started by a creative pastor on subway trains. One church planter trained by William has helped plant more than 30 churches in the past year. Cooperative Program gifts will help meet the goal to plant 1,500 churches in the metro area by 2020. Washington D.C. Subway Churches Missionary MomentCLINT CLIFTON is the Send North America: Washington D.C. city coordinator. He grew up in Florida and became a Christian at age 15. His pastor taught him about ministry and planting churches, instilling in him a passion for church planting. At 17, he helped plant a church near his hometown, and he has been planting churches ever since. Currently he works to start new churches in and around Washington D.C., for the many people groups and the military population there. Clint and his wife, JENNIFER, are in the process of adopting two children from Haiti. Pray for a speedy process and protection for the children until they come home. The Cliftons give special thanks to you for investing a percentage of your church budget to give to support the missions and missionaries through the Cooperative Program. Maine Continue The Work Missionary MomentDON COLDWELL is a church planting intern in his home state of Maine. Mainers are an extremely independent group of people. They take care of themselves in every way possible and feel no need for any spiritual growth or upkeep. The church is no longer considered useful in Maine. That is why Don, his wife, LAURIE, and their three children are looking to impact Maine by planting churches. Pray that Don and Laurie will have the fortitude to keep working the fallow soil of Maine. Pray, also, that the two Haitian children they are adopting will be with them soon. South Asia Prayers Lifted Daily Missionary Moment“Here he is!” Southern Baptist worker CLIFTON MELEK* exclaimed. “Here is the first baptized believer since you began praying for the Bedia five years ago.” First Baptist Church in Centerton, Ark., began a journey with the Bedia of South Asia in 2006. Around 250 church members committed to pray daily for the Bedia until believers are baptized and a new church is planted. Heavy persecution by Hindu village leaders halted mission work and communication with the Bedia. But the church continued to pray. Cooperative Program gifts support missionaries who were placed near the Bedia, opening the door for a Gospel witness. The work continues, but less than 1 percent believe in Christ. *Names changed The preceding "Missionary Moment" was made possible by gifts to the Southern Baptist Association Cooperative Program, which is supported by several Clay County churches who are members of the Booneville Baptist Association which consists of 25 churches in Clay and Owsley counties which are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Kentucky Baptist Convention. Pennsylvania Building Relationships Missionary MomentCHRIS AUTRY and his wife, BECCA, moved to Pittsburgh to plant Abide Church. Pittsburgh is a city of 4 million people living in 1,600 boroughs, each with its own identity and characteristics. One commonality the boroughs share, though, is their slowness to accept Christianity. They have lived there nearly a year and just recently began having spiritual discussions with acquaintances. The process of developing relationships and sharing the Gospel is slow but it’s a process where God is developing His people and awakening them to His glory. Pray for God to bring together people to form the core for their church and for the growth of small groups, and pray for continued support through the Cooperative Program to allow for more planters like the Autrys to start conversations that eventually start churches that make Christ known. Indonesia Networking Missionary MomentSince LAURA TISDALE* was appointed as a Southern Baptist representative 20 years ago, God has led her to Zambia, Thailand and, now, Indonesia, where she helps connect churches with unengaged, unreached people groups — people who have no knowledge of the Gospel and have no one sharing the Good News with them. Through Laura’s work, one unreached people group with more than 8 million members is being engaged by three Southern Baptist churches that are working together. In Mississippi, Laura has worked with 15 of the 83 churches in the Tri-County Baptist Association to band together to adopt other Southeast Asia people groups. Gifts through the Cooperative Program make Laura’s networking possible. *Names changed. Ohio Changing Mindsets Missionary MomentGENE SMITH and his wife, SHIRLEY, were eager to answer God’s call to plant a church in Castalia, Ohio. Castalia is a close-knit community of autoworkers, small-business owners and farmers. Many people were raised in churches that focus more on religious duties rather than on having a personal relationship with Jesus. The prevalent mentality is that all churches are the same, and you can get to heaven simply by being a moral person. Because you give through the Cooperative Program, lives in Ohio are being changed. Pray for more people to partner with the Smiths as sponsors and as core members of their church. Northern Africa Value of Teaching Others Missionary MomentSouthern Baptist representatives PAUL and SARAH JENNINGS* work in a rough, crime-ridden neighborhood in Europe populated by many Muslim immigrants from Northern Africa. Sarah works at two neighborhood centers, teaching crafts such as jewelry making and knitting to women, using supplies purchased with your Cooperative Program gifts. The women work for two hours, and then they talk over tea or coffee — and share Bible stories — for one hour. Each week, 20-30 ladies visit each center. Sarah’s work focuses on sharing the Gospel with women who can then reach their families and neighbors with the love of Jesus Christ. *Names changed.

Alaska Awesome Opportunities Missionary MomentAlaska is unlike any other state in the United States. No matter where you travel in Alaska it will be by plane, boat, dogsled, snowmobile, four-wheeler or some combination of the above. Culturally, Alaska is unique as well. For North American missionaries ALAN and BABS DIAL, the opportunity to see an Alaska native man come to know Christ and commit his life and family to serving God is an awesome thing for the Kingdom. The Dials are thankful for your support of the Cooperative Program and ask that you pray for them as they seek to plant culturally relevant churches among the 140,000 Alaska natives. West Africa "Volunteers Without Borders" Missionary MomentPEDRO and LILY RONALDO* have served as Southern Baptist representatives in West Africa for more than 20 years. Pedro is Brazilian, and Lily is a missionary kid (MK) who grew up in Brazil. They work among a Muslim people group with only a few believers. They partner with Brazilian students whose program name, “Radical,” translates to “Volunteers Without Borders.” Through the Radical project, young workers live in villages where they serve among the people and work on discipleship and church planting. The Radical team is treated as family among this people group. Peru New Friendships Missionary MomentMICHAEL and CRYSTAL GAYHEART, a suburbanite couple who had never even been camping, became Southern Baptist missionaries along a tributary of the Amazon River in Peru. They took six-week treks into the jungle, driving five hours on a rough dirt road and traveling by boat for four hours. With no running water and no electricity, the villagers’ livelihood consisted of fishing and farming. Sleeping in a hut alongside the villagers, the Gayhearts and their four children made friends with their neighbors. American Samoa Utilizing Sports As Unique Opportunity Missionary MomentSeven years ago, North American missionary BRIAN SMART saw a need to help high school students find a way to afford college — usually by obtaining a sports scholarship — and to graduate successfully. His church, Tefuna Baptist, began Field House 100, which is designed to help high school athletes in American Samoa gain acceptance to college through athletic recruiting. Your Cooperative Program dollars make it possible for Brian to lead students in the South Pacific to the Lord, and then train them and equip them to start churches. Pray that God will send more volunteer teachers to the academy to share Christ with the students. India An Unusual Conversion Missionary MomentCHARLIE and ABBEY NOFFSINGER* are Southern Baptist representatives who live in an area of India where half the population is Hindu and half is Muslim. By meeting practical needs, such as water purification projects and flood relief work, the representatives find opportunities to share the Gospel. A preventative health team, comprised of nationals, shares Bible stories as they help to meet physical needs. They have gained access to Muslim villages where entire Bible story sets have been shared. “When you show that you really do care for them, the Gospel can go forward,” Charlie said.
